Bad art teachers are the worst. Don't let them break you down and ruin your passion for creating what you want to create. Get through the art classes you need to and learn what you can from them, but don't let them discourage you. Keep growing your passion for art and learning more.

True. My art teacher was terrible but now I feel free to draw whatever I want 😃. Thank you for lessons!

Well said.

I feel like some art teachers have a chip on their shoulder about their art's success or lack there of. That's the only explanation that I can think of where I could see my middle school art teacher's vindictiveness came from. Gave us a whole speech on day one about allowing us to do most assignments in whatever style we want. So when our first assignment was a self portrait, even the non art kids were hyped. I guess we were too happy because 15 minutes from the end of class she says, "but no cartoons. especially with noodle necks or, " she looked me dead in the eyes as she said the next part "big anime eyes." My desk was right in front of hers, she was giving me the stink eye most of the class. So many people had to restart and turn in unfinished work because she decided that so late in class smh

I'm still mad and it's been 22 years 😂😭

Totally agree, as a child I loved art, but art classes eventually felt like a put down. It took me a while to get back into my own art, although I never stopped loving other people's art.

It always bummed me out at class when I was getting knocked for my shading .

I have thought about going to the community college for drawing classes. But, I always stop myself from signing up. I just want to do it my way and learn on my own as I go along.

As an art teacher I disagree with a lot of what you are seeing. I think it's beneficial to try many things and to push outside the comfort zone. I am always willing to allow students to do what they want with any lesson. My students have a difficult time with that freedom, even though they demand it. They want to be self driven, but don't drive🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm open to suggestions. I do agree that kids should choose what they do part of the time🥰

I had a semester where our art classes was visual art. My grades were so shit the entire semester cause everything graded was on our progress journal and reflection shit, not our actual art. Not to sound narcissistic but I would consider and I’m pretty sure my teacher would agree that my art pieces were top of the class. The sad thing is we weren’t graded on how well our pieces were. I felt so down when I saw my report card even if I knew this was coming. It’s just so unfair.
