That's actually great advice. I learned the hard way, just used air roll until I got it in a rings map after learning basic controls. It took much longer and I can imagine practicing this first would have helped alot. I might still do it just to practice and fix bad habits.

Idk if this can be usefull, but while i've been training air roll left, i just learned that if you want to turn your car in a specific direction while it is rolling, you need to rotate your left stick counterclockwise the direction you started moving it, i think it's hard to understand it like this so imma try to make it easier.
So, we all know that if you want to turn your car right you just move your left stick to the right, but we also know that this works only if the car isn't rolling in any direction. Now let's say that you start using air roll left while holding the stick to the right, you will notice that the car won't move right anymore and that's just because since it is rolling, the right side of the car changes position continuosly.
Now you can notice that when the right side of your car changes position, its wheels side takes its place (this only if you use air roll left), so to keep moving your car to the right you will now need to move the stick up, after the wheels side of the car changed position too, you will need to move the stick to the left, after it changes position again, you will need to move the stick down, now the car has made a complete roll and it is in its starting position.
So i guess you noticed that you've been moving the stick counterclockwise, that's what you need to do if you want to move your car in a specific direction, so there is only one difference between moving the car wout air roll and moving it with it and it's that while the car is air rolling, your stick has to roll too. That's just it, now you just have to remember that while air rolling. (Remember that this works only for air roll left idk if it is the same for air roll right, but imagining the car rolling right, i guess you have to rotate the stick clockwise). Hope it was helpfull, maybe it wasn't very clear as an explanation, but if you didn't understand smthing lemme know and i'll try to explain it better.

I love explaining air roll like this. I personally just recommend only adjusting your call when you air roll on certain orientations. So like only backwards or forwards. That way you have some sense of how to move your car while air rolling and figuring out the rest is mostly mastery.

But I would say holding your car backwards or side ways isn't exactly the same because I can adjust any orientation while air rolling but am really confused if I am not

Paying attention to where in the rotation you are and making adjustments while you’re at a comfortable position helps a lot when you’re just starting.

I’m c3 atm and I first started by learning to aerial forward, then upside down and then sideways before I even binded air roll left and it worked pretty well for me so good advice

I saw a video awhile back that made the concept way easier to grasp. You go on the pillars training map, and only use bottom left/bottom right/top left/top right on your thumbstick while constantly air rolling. Once your comfortable with one, use the next one. Eventually they all become more natural

Can’t do this anymore cause psyonix decide to put reset ball in free play to my air roll and I can’t undo it

I honestly just cannot learn air roll. I know people are gonna say “just keep trying” or “you will get it soon”, but honestly it’s just too hard. Everyone keeps telling me to do a “simple” stick input and keep air rolling, but that doesn’t work. Every time I boost I just go off course, leading me to miss the ball completely after I had a clear set up to hit it to the goal. I feel like I can just do better without air roll at all, unless somebody actually spends time to teach me or teaches me carefully.
