He wound up with the right actors for his film.
I cannot imagine it without Steve Martin and John Candy.

Some people do not realize how instrumental Hughes was in shaping the movies of the 80s and 90s. Just look at his catalogue of iconic movies. Rest any damn way you want John and John

If you pay attention to the movie you can see the different cuts and such that happened… like when Neil was supposed to punch Del and give Del a black eye… when they get to Chicago you can see that Del has a black eye that is never explained…

That's so weird, because the first time I saw this movie was on cable, and I got mad because it felt they'd obviously chopped out huge sections to fit the TV format or for content. Then, years later when I finally saw the vhs of the "full version" for the first time, I remember being completwly baffled by the fact that the sections I thought the cable station had cut out still weren't back in the film for some reason. I had forgot this mystery even existed for me until your video triggered the recall.

So sad that studios/companies that own legal rights to works would rather let films and other art deteriorate and die out forever, rather than let the public have it for free.

Releasing an extended cut seems like money in the bank to me. They're crazy not to do it.
