After high school senior Alivia Henkel suffered a life-threatening cardiac arrest at school, doctors at her local emergency room immediately transferred her to Loyola University Medical Center. Loyola's cardiac team jumped into action to place her on an ECMO machine (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) that took the place of her heart and lungs. To prevent a similar attack in the future, cardiac electrophysiologist Smit Vasaiwala, MD, recommended an internal defibrillator while pediatrician Julie Fitzgerald, MD, and the pediatric ICU team rallied around Alivia to get her back home in time for prom.

Such a young girl for this to happen to. God makes miracles happen, and he has big plans in store for her. All the best to you and the family Geri.
