Ya'll, this one's a doozy! I was so excited to dive into Block 4 of the Designer Mystery Block of the Month that I must have left my attention to detail at the door! But we got it done! Sometimes, we just have to give ourselves grace and be grateful for the opportunity to even make mistakes. I love this block and I hope you enjoy sewing with me despite the bumps along the way.

What a beautiful block. I like to think of the quote "to err is human". My seam ripper and I have an intimate relationship. It is always by my side on my sewing table. I was recently putting some pinwheels together, and I will admit, I have a bit of a problem with them. I was tired and it was late at night and I was trying to get so much done before I went to bed. I had to take an entire block totally apart not once, not twice, but three times!!!! I just had to laugh at myself!! I love red; it is my favorite color!! If I buy yardage, I wash and starch before sewing it. I find that it holds shape better and is easier to line up the edges. Thanks again for sharing. I look forward to seeing the notification that you have posted another video. God bless!! 🩷

I starch everything and it has made my piecing so much better and precise. It takes a little time but I find the results worth the effort. I follow Kimberly Jolly and Lisa Bonjean’s method.

That's a beautiful block. It would look good in any fabric. I'm 73 and have committed every imaginable mistake to be made in my years of sewing and I think I'm now starting to make up some new mistakes. 🤣 Good to know we are all in the same boat. I would love to do one of those block of the month from Fat Quarter but I live in Australia and to have it sent here plus with the money exchange it just isn't affordable and nobody here in Australia has started it up much for us. I have found one person who sells her block of the month. Might go with her. I love yours.

Such a pretty block. So glad you left in the snafus - I won't feel quite as bad every time I make mine! :D

I like the way your corner block is, as is. It seems to "make the corner" by snowball ing it....

I starch small pieces but am experimenting with different types of starch/sizing. My first quilt was a jelly roll and I did not starch. It shrunk when washed and I was not prepared for that at all 😂

Beautiful block and material. In general, I think it best practice to use the ruler v. the cutting mat to make cuts. It is much easier to align the fabric to the ruler than fabric to the mat and to the ruler too many variables particularly on precision piecing that you are doing for this block.

I starch and still have “hairy monsters”.

Your Pfaff 2140 has the scissors, and automatic needle up/down and automatic presser foot up/ down, why don’t you use them?. I have the 2144.
