Why didn't Poland hand over Danzig to Germany? (Short Animated Documentary)

preview_player
Показать описание
Germany demanded numerous territorial concessions from basically everyone in the lead up to World War 2. Everyone gave them exactly what they wanted until Poland who said no to the return of Danzig and some territory called the 'Polish Corridor'. So given that everyone had caved in to Germany's demands up until this point, why was that Poland was the first to refuse?

The 'ultimatum' Germany came up with wasn't even presented to the Polish ambassador, who was turned away when he demanded an audience with Ribbentrop. It was read out loud to the British ambassador, who also wasn't allowed to see the document it was printed on. So yeah it was basically just an excuse to justify their invasion which was already inevitable at this point.

The flag of Poland has three colors. White for purity, red for bravery, and blue for its allies’ loyalty.

2:07 Czechoslovakia wasn't truly a small nation though. They had a really strong army, particularly their tank force. When Germany rolled over France, a significant part of the tanks were former czechoslovakian tanks.

Thank you for continuing to put out great content consistently! So many other great content creators for history on YouTube put out content rarely. Thank you for helping me with my knowledge fix!

Fun fact, On November 13, 1947, the government of the Free City of Danzig in exile is established, with Berlin as its headquarters. This organization is linked to the Federation of Expellees, once led by Erika Steinbach, which has over a million members, it operates to this day.

2:10 I agree with the statement, that poland wasn't a small nation but interestingly, their army was numerically simmilar to the Czechoslovak, a country more then 2 times smaller than Poland. And in the end, allies played germany - not keeping their promises of defending Poland

It's really unfortunate that Poland and Czechoslovakia were too busy squabbling over minor territorial disagreements instead of recognize the much bigger threat of Germany that a united Czecho-Polish front would probably have effectively deterred...
