Technically these are vehicles mechanics love, they keep customers rolling in.

Same engine as PT Cruiser, which is a real pain to work on! Every car owner should have the ability to replace a belt or water pump without having to remove the engine and front-end. The engineers who designed this should be tarred & feathered!

3 years ago I bought my 2000 avalon XLS with 91k miles, now it has 251k miles.. Runs and drives beautifully and I take VERY good care of it. I only paid $2000 for it... BEST MONEY EVER SPENT.

I had a 2014 2wd compass and when driving, with a family of 4, with luggage, it would overheat on an uphill drive from Vegas to California. I started to know what diner to pull over to in order to get gas, feed the family, and let the car cool off. It wasn't even a step grade. The little 4cyl engine was worthless. I'm happy someone hit my car and I was paid out and left jeep forever.

Scotty, you are awesome. I, as someone who has been a mechanic for over 40 years, and like you, has worked on many different cars and even in motor racing as a race engine builder, do on RARE occasion disagree with you, but I admire your spirit of wanting to educate the general non-automotive public and help them to navigate through the mess of the automotive world.

Even though cars for the most part are a thing of beauty; the industry is itself is a messy tangle of metal and politics. Your energy, humor and enthusiasm for cars is infectious and puts a smile on my face every time I watch your videos. Keep the video coming even though you moved from Texas to Tennesse, and it is hilarious to watch all that 'clutter' of automotive stuff you usually have in the background - a true 'backyard' mechanic who is very knowledgeable and funny at the same time.

Everytime I used to go to the NY auto show, when I would get to the jeep section, I felt like the brand was shrinking and dying, but this past auto show, I was actually impressed they had the balls to come out with the big huge wagoneer, first impression was great, then looked at the sticker $100k

The worst thing jeep did was discounting the 4.0 straight 6 cyl!! SMH!!

Personally I can never live with oil leaks. I use this UV dye & it is a a godsend. It is up to the customer in the end. However I’m a perfectionist & do not like cars that leak & leave mess everywhere. My own personal cars are maintained to the enth degree.

A regular old Camry has TWICE the legroom of this dumpy SUV.

I got a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8 4x4 given to me.
It's my current daily driver. It runs, sounds fine.
I have noticed some things that are wrong:
▪︎ Wires in doors might be broke because power windows, mirrors and locks don't work. It's a common issue on Jeep Forums that 99-04 WJ's have wires break between the door and body from opening and closing the door.
▪︎ every once in a while the gear seems to make a thud sound when going up to 50mph+ but works most of the time. Not sure what's causing it because it's not often.
▪︎ I smell oil burning when the car starts up then goes away 1-4min later. It's wet on top of the cap but no leaks under. Maybe it's the cap?
▪︎ the suspension seems bad, it rocks back and forth after turning or hitting bumps in road... maybe Ball Joints, Pitman arm/tie rods or something. Getting it fixed soon. It causes it to turn a little left or right from banking or bumps in road.

But the car runs and it was free. Might cost me $1000 and it has 220k miles and I change oil every 2000 miles just to be safe 5W30, I'm thinking of switching to fully synthetic oil

Me taking car to mechanic: "My sway bars need replaced"
Mechanic: "Well, we'll look at it and tell you what we think, can't really go by what you just think".
Mechanic 3 hrs later: " Yeah, you need to replace your sway bars".

I actually had the absolute nightmare of working on a grand Cherokee diesel, gas engine Cherokee maintenance is bad enough, this diesel maintenance was a horror show

Go to any used car dealership and i garuntee you that they have atleast one or two jeep compasses that they are trying to shove out the door🤣🤣. I bought my 08 liberty last year thinking “man jeep is a good name that holds its value” and i never knew that chrysler owned them, then when i found out. Now im just anxiously waiting for my note to be paid so i can trade it for a toyota fj😂😂😂
