We all go through off times where we feel blah about training.
Sometimes this is due to our bodies fighting a virus or being run down from being too busy or high stress levels.
It’s good to take a moment and think whether your body is telling you to take some extra rest or if it’s something you should just push through.
For me, I know the difference between the two in my energy levels and cognitive function.
If my body is truly in need of a rest day/week, I will feel drained not only physically but also mentally. Zero energy or gumption to do anything.
If it’s rest you feel you need, take it. Listening to your body is ALWAYS the best idea, even if you don’t understand why your body is acting off. Early to bed for a solid week, no ifs ands or buts, usually does the trick for me.
However, if you know that you’re just being lazy and need to just buckle down and push through it, extra sleep is still going to give you the energy needed, but there are a couple of other tactics that I find very helpful to get my lazy glutes in gear ⬇️
Watching some workout motivational videos or listening to some workout motivational speeches on YouTube can really kick your mindset into gear, and seeing other fit people working hard can remind you of your goals and inspire you to get after it.
Preworkout: I don’t like my body to consistently rely upon preworkout to get through a workout, but when I’m really dragging I will take some. It sure can help you take a blah workout and turn it into a great session!
