Bataille's critique of productivity seems from the synopsis given somewhat similar to the underlying idea that people like Negri and Agamben have with "deactivation" or "the refusal to work". By kind of completely refusing productivism.
Also damn Bataille really has a unique conception of political economy. I remember some friends talking about connecting some of his stuff to the conception of political economy as a kind of heat engine, should really get back to them about that.

Wonderful video! It takes so much effort to prep and plan these condensed summaries, so much gratitude (I'm just a lazy, textual-analysis gal). Bataille (Visions of Excess) is on my shelf and I'm waiting until I can put it through the cycle, so I appreciate this taste of some of his ideas and terms before I dive in myself. Hope the reading group is going well! I shall watch more videos.
