I read Cliff Sargent's favorite book. It was.......something.

Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille is a book I discovered through @BetterThanFoodBookReviews's terrific channel. Though I expected something depraved and bizarre...I wasn't prepared for this experience.

I love this book and Georges Bataille. The connotations to Bataille's own life are strong, and his ability to connect eggs and eyes is genius. If you read the part in the middle where he talks about where he got those images, it makes a lot more sense and provides a deep insight into how he copes with those things. Bataille believed that sex and violence were intertwined, and he also thought they bring you closer to death. I think people tend to write this book off as gross erotica which it isn't at all.

Honestly, this sounds a lot like my experience reading Chuck Palahniuk. I enjoyed it more as a visceral experience. Sure, there were a lot of interesting ideas and themes and whatnot, but for me, I never really got into the commentary on society when I was reading it. Instead, I just enjoyed the visceral experience and dark humor. Sounds a lot like this book, but with less eggs.
