I'm trying to write a paper on the breakup of Yugoslavia, and on the war in Bosnia but I'm finding it more and more difficult the more I read. This is some of the most complicated history of humanity, and I'm hitting a wall trying to explain what the hell happened...

It's interesting how these events are relatively recent.

Macedonia: Ok, guys, this isnt working for us, we're leaving.
Rest of Yugoslavia: ...'crickets'

True story guys, nobody gave a single fuck. Meh, why would they...

I am far away in Ireland but I remember how depressing the news was in the early and mid 90s.

Fun fact: The 10 day war in Slovenia only costed 8 lives. One was a Slovenian pilot that hijacked a Yugoslav helicopter and got shot down by his own men. Three were a family that got mowed over by a Yugoslav tank. Two Died from a heart attack upon seeing the Yugoslav airforce and another two were actual Yugoslav soldiers.

Nailed it on the head with this one. As a Serb I don't disagree with anything said here. Very direct and concise, no bias, all facts. Good job. Not allot of that when it comes to the Yugoslav Wars. We all agree that atrocities were committed by everyone but I think it's important to leave the past behind and to look toward the future.

I’m from Bosnia and the war was really horrible here. My mom lived through it and my dad protected Sarajevo and my grandpa (mom’s side). The war was horrible.

As a Serb I must say I like this video for being objective about war, but it should mention at least at end of it about Srebrenica and Oluja. Also if we go back in history there is a lot of points where it could break other way. I agree about foreign factor in breaking Yugoslav union, but it was also foreign factor who created post WWII Yugoslavia and let it to develop as it developed. Yugoslavia was important because it was iron curtain between east and west along with Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Scandinavia. As being communistic it was natural to Yugoslavia to stand beside Soviet union, but Tito didnt wanted to be Stalins slave so he said no to him and western leaders accepted Tito as their ally and gave him money to suport ex yu. When Tito died and danger of Soviets faded, same was with Yugoslavis importance. When there was money every body was happy and without money we all know that nationalism is a poor mans hobby.

"The IMF agreed to loan Yugoslavia money, but required a series of reforms which were worsened unemployment, decentralized the Communist party and helped fuel nationalism"

Mmmm, sounds familiar...

Before you proceed to the comment section below, let me give you an example of how tolerate we are at each other... Croats and serbs managed to start a flame war in the comments section of a porn video on porn-tube... A PORN VIDEO!!! To us, nothing is sacred :D
So you should not be surprised to see a flame-war below... XD

While I do admire the effort to explain the conflict in three minutes, there really is no way without going into how Yugoslavia was formed and the conflicts within the country during WW2.

Speaking as a serb, all I can say is that this video was professionally done, as it wasn't biased or attempted to demonise either side, but rather spoke of things as they actually were, great job and keep up the good work!

The thing is Serbia got bombed for intervening in Kosovo and doing some pretty bad stuff that's true but western countries just seemed to forget the fact that those bad stuff were a response to a violence not cause for violence. I'm not saying that those acts weren't bad, I'm just asking wouldn't any other. country do the same? I mean why didn't they bomb Russia for Chechnya? Or Israel for Palestine, why didn't UN post sanctions to Spain for declaring that by Constitution they will use deadly force if Basks or Catalans try to secede. Wouldn't Americans react with deadly force if Mexicans declared military independency in some region of US? And one thing more you know Bosnian military consisted of El Mujahedeen whom you happily supported? Why did you support Muslim extremists in the middle of Europe, and why are you now suddenly struck by the fact that Yugoslav guns were used in Paris attacks and general rise of terrorist treats to Europe?

You didn't mention the most important event of the Yugoslav wars: Operation "Storm" from 1995.

It is really helpful to watch brief summary videos like this before trying to wade into more complicated analyses. Thanks!
