Let’s talk about how stress can potentially turn your hair grey. Of course, other things can cause grey hair, like the normal aging process and genetic factors. But, there are epigenetic factors, which are above your genes, and you may be able to do something about your genes through your nutrition, environment, and more. But what about premature greying because you’re going through too much stress?

In the hair follicle, you have stem cells, which create pigment. When exposed to chronic stress, you get an elevation of noradrenaline. Noradrenaline is the precursor of adrenaline.

They found that noradrenaline causes stem cells to migrate away from the hair root and into the skin. So, you lose your stem cells and, with them, the ability to keep your hair pigmented. The key is to keep your stress low.

How to keep your stress low:
• Sleep more
• Exercise more
• Take vitamin B1 regularly (nutritional yeast)
• Identify the cause of the stress and do something about it

I'm 35 and turning grey. I think my stress is related to the fact that I feel completely alienated and alone. I don't see my values reflected in modern society, I don't relate to the vast majority of people and I don't feel there is much of a future for myself or my community. Nutrition aside, I think these factors play a major role in creating stress and unhappiness.

Thank you, Dr. Berg, this explains much of my hair turning gray after an immediate family member’s medical issue. I was the primary caretaker and it affected me both physically &emotionally.

I heard, a long time past, on a Christian medical radio show, that the carotene in carrots is very similar chemically to the melanin in our hair and skin. Therefore, eating lots of carrots was like giving the body ammunition to make pigment for the hair and skin. The speaker did say the day of gray would come, but with enough carrots, one could push that day of gray back as far as possible. I am 64, and still have lots of color in my hair. Eating a helping of carrots 3 to 5 times a week.

Fascinating! I always wondered why, when people get sick/suffer a lot of stress, they suddenly seem to age about ten years. During my recent stressful episode, my kids commented that I was looking old. I even found a grey hair at one point (I'm 35). That was the turning point for me, when I knew something I was doing was negatively affecting my health and needed to change. Thanks for helping me figure it out. As of today, my hair is looking much healthier... and no greys in sight.

My success story: I started on Keto before discovering Healthy Keto. I lost 15 lbs but began losing hair. I continued Keto the Dr Berg way—50 grams net carbs rather than 20 carbs/day with supplements (especially potassium and D3/K2. I ate WAY more vegetables (green smoothies). I also used a biotin shampoo. I continued my weight loss and reached my goal of 25 lbs.but I also stopped the hair loss. I’ve maintained the new weight over a year with frequently measuring the food I eat, regular walking and HIIT, frequent measuring of blood levels of ketones to blood sugar, and staying motivated by regularly watching Dr Berg videos. When a few pounds creep back up, I know exactly what to do. It is a powerful feeling knowing that my weight is something I have control over. I’m 67.

Avoiding stress. For an average, working human being in the modern world, that's like asking a fish to avoid water. Good luck.

Becoming a parent has been both the best thing of my life, & the most stressful. Never really knew what real stress was (nor experienced white hairs sprouting out of my head) until after I became a parent.

There is a variety of reasons for gray to begin. I turn 64 tomorrow, my roots are coming in almost black now. 7 yrs with a narcissist turned my hair almost completely white. For a few years at the beginning of my relationship with him, I started taking an effervescent vitamin that changed my hair color back to the beautiful brown it was from birth, so in my research figured it has to do with antioxidants. IDK but it's been interesting watching the color change back and forth.

There's nothing wrong with having gray hair, but there's nothing wrong with having soft shiny natural warmly colored hair either. Keto, B vitamins & eating eggs re-grew me a head of hair like Cousin It. ||•||•||||

Thank you Dr Berg! My family has been on keto for the past 1-2 years. We have all experienced great health improvements. These videos keep me motivated and I learn something new with each one. I'm 62 now. This one is a good reminder to take my vitamins regularly, order some nutrional yeast and get more exercise! Thanks for all you (and your wife) do.

Started graying at 15. At 50, I’m almost totally gray. My dad did the same.

My hair used to be dry and fizzy. One year into low carb and intermittent fasting, it went smooth and soft. Not really sure if fasting did the magic .

I LOVE my gray, silver and white hair. I love this hair color better than my original hair color and a LOT more than anything out of a bottle. My hair is long. Past my shoulders and for the first time in my life, I get a lot of compliments on my hair.

I’m 64 and have very little gray hair and my sister who is 67 has almost none. My mother who is 92 still has a lot of her brown hair. I’m a person that stresses over everything so I guess this doesn’t hold true for me. But then again it could be a genetic thing for us.

My one friend said he got gray hair over night. He was fighting in WWII and he was sleeping under a tank in the snow. When he woke up on the other side of the tank was a German soldier frozen to death with a gun in his hands. He said it upset him very much knowing that he could of been killed that night.
