One thing I’ve learned driving in Sicily is that it’s helpful to make sure to see the eyes in the other cars at an intersection. Most drivers here are texting or talking on their phones so sometimes I give just a little horn beep so they look up and see me.

I am old and have ridden bikes on-and-off for many years. I am grateful for the sound advice. That white line hack could be a life-saver; tapping the brakes to flash your brake lights is a damn good idea - keeps you, the rider alert as it draws more attention to you; breaking to be safe not the same as using your breaks in turns - what a concept! - same for standing up for your rights not in traffic - survive the situation first and argue your case later. Seriously thank you, Bro for the simple and right on advice.

Been riding a very long time. Been blessed to have not been in any accidents. And YET
I HAVE LEARNED A FEW THINGS
Thank you
It is just stupid to think you can’t learn anything. I know people like that.

I totally agree with you about all but one tip you mentioned here, and I practice them in my riding every time I go out.
We only disagree about using brakes in corners. A so-called trail braking is not only for racing and crotch rockets. It can be useful in every blind corner when you cannot see the exit early enough. You can use brakes in cornes as long as you do not use them abruptly. And that is the key word, abruptly.
Nevertheless, great video, cheers!

I’m an older rider living in Sicily. The bright car lights were a huge problem for me until I bought prescription night driving glasses. Unfortunately in Sicily there rarely are white lines on the right of the road so the glasses have really helped.

Thank u for great tips!!! Enjoyed !! My husband back in the 60’s taught me that WE WERE ONE ON THE ROAD‼️. ( Bike him & myself) so I’ve never been just a backseat rider. I am also watching ppl on both sides of bike, if ppl see us, watching traffic approaching all intersections & always use hand signals back in the old days our bike didn’t have turn signals etc. only been in one accident & thk God never but seriously hurt. Back then we didn’t have crash bars. So I had super aware if we were going to go down I could get off bike & help to get bike of ppl. When I was teenager we went down with two bikes, my gf got pinned between the 2 bikes & lost a leg from knee down eventually losing all of that leg & part of next leg as she got gangrene from shooting dope. RIP PH. 1967. RIP PN. ❤❤

Very good video. Some of these tips, I had to learn the hard way. I exit off the highway one day into a single lane and stopped at a red light. A perfect, beautiful sunny day when suddenly I was struck from behind and I'm on the ground. The lady said she thought the light was green. Since then whenever I come to a stop sign, I pull as far to edge of the lane as possible and keep an eye on the vehicle coming up behind me.

Great informative video. At 64 I’ve owned more motorcycles than I can count, probably close to 1, 000, 000 miles on then all… I finally got hit by A Cager three years ago, their fault. Broke all my major bones and the left side of my body. I have now recovered, and back to riding my 2018 Milwaukee eight classic… What saved my life was my full face Shoei helmet, which was completely ground down on the left side of the helmet. I had no road rash at all because I wore all the gear. Please don’t take this wrong my fellow biker, in your video you were wearing Skull helmets, and T-shirts, not only that you had your passenger dressed the same as you. Please remember it’s all fun and games till you go down, road rash kills people every day from infections, and if I’ve been wearing that helmet that you have on your head, I’ve been a dead man. Just saying. Be safe out there, and enjoy the ride.

@graybeardbiker I like your list. Some of them I already implement, others I didn’t even think about until you pointed out the benefits of doing those things, like leaving yourself a way out at a stop by positioning your bike to the side of the vehicle in front of you. It’s not a riding but when it comes to parking somewhere like Walmart, I don’t park in the proper parking spaces but I will park in the areas at the front that are marked off so people don’t park there. If your bike is out of view because of the car parked next to it someone may pull into your parking space and not expect a bike to be sitting there.

Many Thanks from Germany. You reminded me of the risks at intersections. Well done.
I will remember that stops at intersections is not the right time to relax but to pay attention.

As a newbie rider your tips are spot on and I actually try my best to implement them in my riding, thanx so much…

Excellent advice. Especially not pulling up directly behind a vehicle, but to the side, to keep you safer in a shunt.
