You pay for the public bathrooms where a ton of people goes. Like big train stations in major cities like Milan. The line is endless, and since someone cleans them, you have to pay. Imagine what would happen if nobody cleaned them...
You usually don't have to pay for public bathrooms in non-touristy areas, or inside malls and other public spaces. So I guess it depends on how much people use them.

The water in restaurants doesn't come in small bottles in Italy, but in big glass ones, 0.75l or 1l, and they cost a couple euros, but it depends obviously.

Street signs are usally signs on a pole at the beginning of the road, just some historical cities have them on the walls

But overall it's an accurate list

#7 about cigarettes is a lie, there are many anti-smoke actions
+ I have never seen ketchup in glass, wtf

The water thing was my first cultural shock when I travelled abrod. You see, in Greece, no matter where you go, the first thing you're served is ample free tap water, and water bottles cost 0.5 EUR. That's all I ever knew before I travelled abroad, so going from that to sitting down for a coffee or lunch in another EU country and not being served water was quite the shock (as I always drink it when it comes); let alone having to pay multiple euros for that.

So, well... it depends on the country. In this sense, one can really never say "This is the way in Europe" for each country has a different way.

Hello friend! Since I'm Spanish, I can tell you if these generalizations can apply to my country. Here goes my comment... sorry for the length.

1. Not entirely. There are some places where you have to pay 1 euro, like metro and airports. But in most places you can use the bathroom, as long as you are an establishment client. Malls usually have free bathrooms. There are some bars that let you use the bathroom without being a client, it depends on the generosity of the owner, but as a sign of politeness, we buy something before/after using the bathroom.
2. Spanish bars usually give you a glass of water for free with your coffee for example, can be still or sparkly water. Restaurants almost always bring you a small bottle/glass, and they charge you double or triple the cost of a grocery store.
3. Very true. Not only because of history, but also culture. It's usual that in Europe there are different cultures living in the same country. Spain is a good example of that; Arabian style structures in Andalucía, Celtic ruins in Galicia, etc.
4. Very true. In most places you can live without a car. I do. And I save a lot of money thanks to that.
5. Not true. Entire families go to watch and enjoy basketball, volleyball or football matches, children included. We have local teams to cheer. Maybe I didn't get that point right?
6. Maybe true. It depends on where you go. Here in Spain you can feel full with one single dish, the one shown in the video is very small to be honest. I think expensive and gourmet restaurants are the ones to blame. Ketchup, alioli, guacamole, butter, spicy sauce, Tabasco, etc. are not charged here in Spain, they come included with the dish, depending of what you asked to eat.
7. True. Many people here smokes just because it was a "cool" thing in high school, and end up hooked on it. Fortunately the number of smokers are decreasing, slowly. I don't know about the other countries, but in Spain you see ugly images in tobacco boxes, with black teeth, blackened lungs, and the phrase: "smoking kills".
8. I think that's a stereotype for France and northern Europe. idk
9. Yep. Spaniards are not a good example, but we learn up to three or four languages in school, the basics at least. In Catalonia, Basque Country and Galicia are bilinguals (castilian and a national language, like catalan, gaellician and euskera). I had colleagues that spoke fluently from 4 to 7 languages.
10. True. Recycling containers everywhere on the street and malls.
11. Coins, yeah. Bring me the metal, baby...
12. Yup. 100%.
13. They are still not very affordable for poor commoners like me.
14. Absolutely.
15. Oui.
16. In Spain we call that "sobremesa", "over-table" if you make a literal translation. It's basically staying on the table, drinking coffee, beer and chatting, after having lunch or dinner. We are very social.
17. Parks, plazas with trees and flowers, terraces to have coffee, strolls, hiking, trekking, cycling, etc etc etc. Life balance.
18. It's not a right. It's mandatory. You HAVE to go on vacations hahaha I'm very sorry for you if you are a workaholic.

In Belgium you have to pay for public toilets but they are always clean, most of the time there is someone who always will do a check after every customer and cleans the toilet seat. Water is not free in bars and restaurants but it will never be tap water all thow we have perfect tap water, we have natural mineral and different types of sparkling water, so I guess it's a tradition. We don't bottle tap water like in the US.
Sports are a family event and we also have pre and after meals and drinks not only for football, but also for cycling and cyclocross.
Smoking is not consider cool anymore and in most places smoking is forbidden, we even have a law against smoking in your own car when there are children in it.
Everywhere there are separate trash bins so almost everything will be recycled, in supermarkets you can also turn in used batteries and frying oil.
Ketchup and other condiments are free in some restaurants and with some meals.
The standard vacation time is about 4 weeks a year and you just take it all at once or in separate days or weeks.
We do drive smaller cars because of the lack of parking spaces everywhere, parking is also very expensive in most cities so we prefer the public transport to the city, there are areas in Antwerp where you can only park for 3 hours paying 10 euros and you can't extend the parking time.
When you travel even as a European in Europe there will always be a cultural diffence so you can't generalize the whole of Europe.

what you watched is the worst video that could explain certain things, among those I have seen, it is the most wrong one, it makes Europe look like one nation

1. You don't have to pay to use the toilets everywhere particularly if you are in a cafe or restaurant, the toilets are free. And even if you do pay, the costs vary and are often as little as ten pence. It's for upkeep and to keep the toilets clean.
2. Ketchup is available in many if not most restaurants. At least that I have ever seen although really people don't use it and it COULD easily be construed as an insult to the food.
Lots on the list really does depend on where you are, but not all of it is wrong.

The idea of paying to go to the toilet is that the money should be used to keep the toilets clean and fresh. That's what you pay for.
Unfortunately, some toilets don't get the standard that is intended.
On the other hand .... many toilets work as they should .... fresh and clean. Staff who tidy and keep clean.
You don't have to pay everywhere at all.
Remember that he explains that he generalizes a lot! There are big differences between European countries. Free ketchup, free water in restaurants etc.

Footnote .... at least the Nordic countries also have unisex toilets nowadays. At train stations etc. We all do the same thing in the toilets, right ?. And you are left alone in the toilet "booth" without visibility from the outside. No one cares if you are a man, a woman, a different gender identity. It gets a lot easier that way!

The smoking thing is very central European only especially France. You don't see that many smokers in other parts, especially indoors where is several countries it is actually illegal to smoke indoors in public spaces.

As a German, I love the drinking fountains and free bathrooms you have in the USA!

I never pay for using toilets in Europe. Just use one in a cafeteria or restaurant. In my country they can not refuse people to use their bathrooms even if your not a customer.

So I am torn on this. There are plenty of free bathrooms in Europe. At least in countries I've been to. Water in restaurants is also sometimes free. In those that serve tap water. Some don't. Sinks are ok, only had a tiny sink in apartment in Belgium, although same apartment had 3 other sinks which were normal in size so I never used a small one. Smoking is not cool, definitely, although maybe more common. Nobody would ever say it's cool lol :D

The video has bizarre facts that don't apply to almost any european country. The guy spent 1 year to generate this... I would advise him to spend 10 years get the real picture.

The part of smoking is not true. They are trying to ban smoking in many places and make it every time more expensive. It's already ban on stations and inside every building

Streets are clean, because you can and will be fined in most countries for littering and in most cases it is high price for not putting your trash where it belongs. People take their trash home.

By law French workers get 5 weeks annual leave, not 6. It is still the highest in the world though.
