I've been too scared to fight the Wither, but all old methods seem to be patched out (i.e. trapping it under the end fountain)
I'd almost resigned to the fact I'd be fighting it then this pops up.

I tested out a lot of different bedock formations in a creative world, and guess the key is you need to have a trench at least 3 blocks long and 3 blockd brlow the upper bedrock layer. As long as I made sure there was bedrock on the upper layer 4 blocks east and one block south of the heads of the wither, it seemed to be caught and suffocate.

You could also use sunflowers since they always face a specific direction

IMPORTANT NOTE: Stay far away from the wither when it spawns, becomes phase 2, and dies, killed me instantly from 5ish blocks with prot 4 armor.
