If you’re an average user and you want an M3 MacBook with a big screen, the choice comes down to the 15” MacBook Air and the 16” MacBook Pro - but how do you know which one to choose? I know that there is some confusion about external display support - and I found something strange about file transfer speeds - so we’ll talk about it.

I don’t want to spoil some of the ending, but if you’re a super demanding user and you’re always pushing your laptop to the max - save yourself some time and just get the MacBook Pro - but for the rest of us, there’s a lot to consider.

Thanks for another great comparison, I look forward to them every Monday morning. I think I would opt for an upgraded Air these days (16/512) for the savings in cost and weight. I'm with you on the notch, I don't even see the thing and don't understand what the big deal is, and I like the Space Gray so smudges have never been an issue.

This is a great report Thank you so much! Could you give me some personal advice? I have a MacbookPro 15" 2017 16GB / 2 TB SSD and would like to upgrade, especially for using Lightroom and PS for 60 MP Raw image editing. Would you recommend the MBA 15" with 24GB/2TB or do I need the MBPro as money is tight what would be the different for photo processing? Does the MBA run hot easily? I appreciate your input.

This was a fun video. My thought process is the MBA is for the casual user. Any power user is going to have the MBP for the reasons you mentioned and many more.
IMO, it is so unfair to compare the two because they are for different users and one is more powerful than the other & one is more expensive than the other.

What do you suggest? I'm thinking of switching from M1 Macbook Pro 16 inch to M3 Macbook Air 15 inch, as I find that the 16 inch Pro is too heavy to carry everyday. "Buy it nice or buy it twice". Solid advice there.

I went for the base M1 MBA and regretted it. With just 8GB of RAM, I hit limits really quickly and can only have 3 or 4 apps opened at once to get work done. Even Sidecar to my iPad couldn't work well as I found out much later that it is RAM intensive. Will be upgrading to the spec'ed out 15" Air soon when retailers offer discounts.

I find that the larger Apple notebooks such as the 15 inch 2018 MB Pro are comfortable to type on when used on the lap but are not comfortable to type on when used on the desk due to the relatively long distance from the front edge of the notebook to the keyboard. I find it more comfortable to type when the upper arms are more in there vertical position. However, a solution to this issue is to angle the computer about 10-15 degrees.
