I had the opportunity to sit down with the founder and CEO of Convai, the company behind the viral NVIDIA Computex game demo. In this video, I get to pick his brain about how the tool works, how to create characters, how to use it yourself, and I even get to demo it a bit myself.

I used this months ago in Unreal I am surprised its barely getting recognition. Imagine adding Ai to all the classic games, it would be a reboot of the old days.

I can already imagine walking to a NPC guarding some treasure or whatever and asking you to solve a riddle to get to your goal.. except it will generate it on the go, no walk through to refer to online, just having to scratch your head or try to find a solution online or ask your friends around and such to find the solution to those things.. exciting really

I'd love to see some more interactions with groups of AI. I think a demo that shows off talking to multiple people in a room would be really impressive.

I want to see a side-by-side comparison of you speaking to the same character asking the same questions, but the settings for one of them is drastically different. For example when you ask the tour guide about his belt I like to see a version of him say "it's none of your business and if you get too personal with your questions then I'm going to have to ask you to leave." And then I want to see him get angry and call security and escort you out when you keep asking him questions that are personal. That's the next step.

This is 100 times better than Nvidia's demo. I have no idea what they were thinking.

One more thought : these NPCs don't have any actual physical embodiment in the world, they're just chatbots. So you couldn't ask one to show you his sword, for example. Or you couldn't tell a character to point out the nearest armour shop, or to identify a nearby object (at least, not without extra programming). The tech that's on display here is clearly a paper-thin layer on top of the standard ChatGPT API, I really don't see what people are excited about.

There is one thing I figured with Chat-GPT: It apologizes way too often and acts like a “you are always right because you are the human and I need to be the gentle AI” character. And if it is told to act not like this, it doesn't really understand how to act rude. :D But I believe we will get to it.

Furthermore, its overall memory is horrible. I had this Tattoo question moments a couple of times when using regular Chat-GPT 4 where it is saying no, then yes like it's not a big deal, and if caught in a lie… Apologizing and arguing like a typical person that will never be truthfully to you.

These AI systems need another layer of detail that is being generated once the NPC is born. It requires an information background like a typical Dungeon and Dragons Pen and Paper sheet. There, the guy from the museum would have a tattoo – but also the fitting background information that lets the AI decide to tell you about or not. This is also becoming more tricky down the road since the character - art side must fit as well. In that case, the tattoo must exist and must have been placed from the system where the AI thinks it is.

Matt, we’ve seen recording artists like Queen and The Beatles sell their “art” in perpetuity. How long until someone like Harrison Ford sells their Indiana Jones character, and we have a whole new series of Indy movies?

I literally don't think I've ever heard they would want to merge with AGI after the singularity — being the first time I ever heard that because it's usually reasons it'll be the end of us or ways to regain dominance... I agree with you 💯 about the potential of all this but also how the human element is needed for it to be great. A perfect example of this is the reasons why I will always watch every one of your videos I come across vs. most other content creators that are reporting on A.I. So many of them it is obvious they are using chatGPT for 100% of the script and dialogue of their video. Without "Your Mom, " what would this video be? Not nearly as good. Keep crushing it Matt!
