Artificial intelligence is reshaping our world, offering incredible opportunities but also posing serious risks. In a groundbreaking move, the EU has rolled out the world's first AI regulation, classifying AI into four risk levels with tailored rules for each. What does this mean for the future of AI in Europe? Could certain technologies be on the brink of a ban? Watch this video to uncover the impact of these new regulations and what they could mean for the future of innovation!

Best part: the actual AI breakthroughs, which aren't in a Social Media Fad, are almost unaffected. Medicine, astronomy, material science, it's all research and development... Not generating cat pictures

I think it’s good that we are regulating. Last thing we need is to end up like America, where faulty face recognition AI got innocent people arrested and beaten.

I think this is good for Europe. Unlike in the US, we have always prioritised people over corporations. Will this slow innovation, sure. Will this make it impossible, no absolutely not. If we lose sight of ourselfs we will be in a dystopian landscape like that of the US in no time. Where money is more important than anything else, which are no European values but American values.

Even if it takes 40 years, companies can – and will – wait while we decide how to protect ourselves.

Corporations don’t have the same priorities as people. Their focus is profit, not public interest. When we hear words like “rapid” innovation, it suggests we risk losing out if we don’t act fast. But what’s really at stake? For companies, it’s profits. For us, it’s privacy, security, and societal well-being.

Rushing to adopt new technologies without thoughtful regulation puts humanity at risk. The consequences of moving too quickly can’t be undone. While some regions may embrace looser regulations for faster access to new tech, they also face the risks sooner.

There’s nothing wrong with taking time to protect privacy and ensure responsible development. Progress shouldn’t come at the expense of people.

I don't trust AI and will never do. It's not just about privacy but AI can replace other people's jobs.

Like this, mostly in USA: Corporations: we don't care about you, we care about our profits.

As an academic AI researcher in Ireland, people don't really seem concerned about the AI act. Generally if you're in a risk category like health where you're going to be heavily regulated, you're already used to intense regulation. And below that all it basically says is not to fool the public. It's not really stiflingly difficult to put a warning label on your product.

In fact GDPR is something I've had to think about much more than the AI act. Though I'm a big fan of GDPR, so I don't mind that.

I'd much rather that potentially harmful AI has a slower rate of innovation in order to secure people's safety and privacy, it's a no brainer when those are the two options. You should be incredibly suspicious of any company or individual who advocates for innovation over human safety; they're essentially telling you that they would happily harm you to get their tech business off the ground. Also, why must innovation have no boundaries? I reject the presumption that in order to innovate we must also sacrifice or exploit. Great to see the EU being a world leader in this.

AI would need regulation sooner or later. I think sooner is better.

Maybe there could be a leniency for small companies better they have to complie...

I'm glad Europe didn't go down the American dead end: leave corporations to do anything they want with the population willing-fully endangering people in the name of extra-profit.

Personally, I'm very proud of being part of the first institution that is willing to protect it'd citizens. I think what is happening in the USA especially in Twitter is a perfect example of the issues AI without restriction presents

European AI act-good for people bad for bussiness
It's kinda similar with the situation created by if we all stay at home, we'll be safe but at the same time we'll be bankrupt
Draghi calls for innovation but Ursula plays it safe....in about 30 years from now we won't have a huge problem like the US, but we will have 30.000 very, very small problems created by our economy
you see, the answer to your simple question "good or bad for Europe?" has an infinetely more complex answer than 'yes' or world doesn't work like that, every decision has a consequence it's like a very complex "choose your destiny" videogame with real life consequences....We europeans are soooo naive, so conservative, so conventional !!!! The Americans are letting start-ups to do their thing so the US Government gets the money from their developing and sales... they will let them do whatever the hell they want until enough money will be produced and cashed in by the Government and then...and ONLY then they will start implementing strict and tough regulations on AI....implementing rules too soon is a deal-breaker for developers, that's why they left Europe...we don't even HAVE the developers and we're already regulating something we don't have :)))
EU with AI is like sex with have to let people play with some ideas, make some money out of it, be creative, encourage it, grow it and than heavily tax it, regulate the hell out of it, do whatever you want, but let's make some billions first!
30 years from now we will very safely and peacefully plow our lands with our extremely developed electric tractors, bragging about our yearly potato production...We, my dear europeans, have shot ourselves in the foot!!! in a very safe and regulated manner :))))

Good for Europe, because when we've just one application between different European countries that they use it to communicate with each other in AI world and its ideas and strategies, probably we'll unite again and be more stronger.
I think this idea is so close from European Union as soon as we are planning to be United in AI.
I hope for our Continent Europe be save and always has a high independence itself.
All love for Europe 🇪🇺 from Germany 🇩🇪💖

As an American, I am very Pro EU. Although I could easily fault it's mistakes, The EU basically serves the role that US states were supposed to serve. To try out new and different methods of resolving political, economic and military problems.
If other Americans don't like The EU, that's the problem of those Americans.
Please remember that the Europeans didn't push for an extended and foolish war in Iraq.
They were also very cautious about their involvement in Afghanistan.
Hell, the US should have been out of Afghanistan in less than 2 months.
PS : I am Anti MAGA and Anti WOKE. I am a Pragmatic Centrist.
George H W Bush is the last US President that I hold in high regard.

Not only does the AI Act (specifically level 3) make the process of Research&Development longer, it also costs businesses on average 2% of their revenue. This gives companies no other choice, but to experiment with AI somewhere else (the US). I'm fine with the other levels, but level 3 of the AI Act poses a challenge to the already the falling behind R&D businesses in Europe.

These feel like common sense to me, as long as all the levels are defined clearly and unambiguously.

Regulation is needed, but needs to be kept simpel, without too much red tape and mountains of paperwork.

The best part is the ban on a social credit system like in China. That would be the end of democracy.

use AI to evaluate if an idea meets the regulations and what type of risk it represents

I attended a presentation at my uni about this law back in november. I am happy to hear it has been implemented pretty much 1:1. I love 2 things about this: you have to be informed if you speak to an AI which is huge. So as long as its a EU company and they do not state they use a chatbot, you are talking to a human. including customer support or something like dating apps. and the second thing I love is they banning of any and all social credit systems.
