Whatever works best for you and your saw. all of those sizes can be used.
I'd suggest 1/4" though.

I just watched at least a dozen of these marble videos consecutively and i am still utterly mesmerized.

I suppose that could be done, but it's faster and less risky of damaging the rest of the wood if cut with the bandsaw.

See the linked article on why I didn't use that method.

Sometimes, watching your videos is the best.

it is just mind boggling how you come up with these neat ideas and the precision with you execute all this is even more amazing. I love your work and it has inspired me get back to making toys that I really enjoyed.

Nice quality video. I particularly appreciate that it's well lit.

Thanks for another great video. I love large gears made from wood but since I don't own a band saw I cheat and use my laser to cut gears. I can't cut plywood thicker than 6mm so use several layers for thicker gears.

I don't know how often you make gears, but couldn't you make some templates for standard teeth and a mechanism that lets you rotate a piece of wood, to make gears with your Pantorouter or Pantograph(?).

For doing rotationally symmetric work on wheels, gears etc, have you considered fixing the object at the axis? I could imagine that sawing a circle or cutting teeth at just the right angle would then be as easy as tracing a circle with a compass!

Imagine using your pantograph to do gears: You make a template for ONE notch, fix your gear at the axis, and after cutting a notch simply rotate it slightly in position for the next notch!

Would that be an idea, or does it not make sense?

Thanks. How many teeth per inch would you suggest on the blade? For the typical thickness of the wood cut in this project and from what I read I was guessing about 10 teeth per inch? Does that sound sensible?

I just bought a cheap 2nd hand bandsaw to try and make this. Its a bench top 56 1/8th inch model - but what blade width and tpi would advise? My machine takes 1/8th, 2/8th and 3/8th widths. Thanks!

Is there anyway of getting the plans for the entire machine?
Its beautiful :)

BTW Nice wood work you got going! I almost think you should design a marble machine kit to sell! But you'd need mass production. I still like it though!

"Because the hole is a bit smaller than my shaft I actually have to pound it in there pretty good."
