What a great scene by two great actors! The tension created by the music, the dark rainy night, and presence of two powerful men. Denzel is awesome in his facial expressions: showing calmness, strength, focus and that he wasn't intimidated by Gene Hackman's authority yet was clearly aware of it and his presence. Gene Hackman has a unique ability of using wit and humor to underscore the underlying intensity and power of his characters. Great stuff!

See at 1.19 that subtle scratching of the cheek by Denzel (a common non-verbal communication us humans make) when there is some uncertainty kicking in of how he thinks the conversation is going. This is what separates top actors from the rest.
