Making your own fishing sinkers at home will save you a lot of money over time. This is especially true if you can find a cheap supply of old used lead. Even if you purchase your lead from a scrap metal dealer it will still cost far less to make your own sinkers. Molten lead is very dangerous. A few simple rules will keep you safe: Wear leather gloves and a face mask. Keep water away from molten lead or it will explode. Avoid the fumes. It is also possible to make a wide range of home made sinker moulds.

THANKS! I'm going to get some lead today and do this. I fish close to a dam that has really fast currents and I can loose 8-10 weights a day and this will help me with costs

I bought 50 lbs of lead yesterday and casted 24 weights already.
I'm going to make 50-100 today and should be set on weights for a while

have you tried sand molding? Just stick your original in the sand and remove carefully.
Add wire fixtures and pour. The sand needs to be very fine and only a slight bit damp. I've used beach sand to cast somewhat larger ones but if you don't need exact detail, it should work.

Has anyone tried moulds from plaster of Paris or concrete? Presumably they would need to be dry and fully cured but what do you all think?

Easier to make moulds with High Temp Silicone. Scrap wood however is the cheapest option.

Hi nice video and an interesting type of sinkers, remind me of ones used in rivers to deal with a strong current. One thing- it would be good to mention what type of mask is needed to melt lead as it is a very big hazard and just saying "face mask" may be confusing as there is many on the market and many people need to be educated about correct protective equipment. Tight lines! ;)

please, PLEASE do not cast into wood, if the wood is at all moist there could be a catastrophic steam explosion. use sand with aluminium foil over it instead.

Was expecting at least info on how to make the wooden mold.
