The death of Commander John Strangways and his secretary leads 007 to Jamaica to investigate further in DR. NO.

The secretary calling on the radio owned that house in real life. One of the 'blind mice' was the dentist of one of the other actors. The 'apartment' that JB kills 'the professor' in was the suite that Mr. & Mrs. Broccoli were staying in while the film was being shot. Dr. No was shot on a very limited budget, thus the 'hey, do you wanna be in a movie?' kind of casting and locations.

In the book. Strangeway was a friend of bond during the war. And saved his life. Bond took it personal that he was killed by a bunch of thugs.

Terence Young's Bond films are the most stylish ones; he is the master director when it comes to Bond, combining savoir vivre and Hitchcockian chamber play qualities - a perfect match for Ian Fleming's fantasy crimes.

This clip here shows a serious, grown-up, suspenseful and gratifyingly true-to-the-book opening sequence to my favourite Bond film - and actually my favourite film in general.

Never commented on (including in any book on the 007 films) but the build-up to Sean's entrance is brilliant: we're introduced to so many guys- Strangways, the signals men, the courier seeking Bond at the club- before we finally see him... and his visual impact and ballsy presence immediately set him apart from all those who preceded.
