Frieren is ferns mother figure. When frieren meets her first she is 6 or 8 in the current manga she is around 19. For over ten years, so most of her live, frieren has been teaching and taking care of her. Its also why she gets jealous so fast, throughout her travels she is constantly reminded that frieren outlives everyone and drops of for decades in a row, so she wants to spend as much time as possible with her mother, as she doesn't want that to happen to her too. Its super hardbreaking as to fern frieren is the only family she has left.

Actually Frieren is connecting more with people thanks to Himmel. He laid the groundwork to make Frieren realize she has to enjoy the now with the people she has relationships with before it’s too late.

One of the reasons Himmel did small altruistic acts in villages and posed to have statues of himself made was to help Frieren remember him years after his passing. The guy has been looking out for her from the moment she joined his party all the way to his death.

The way you pronounce the names Fern and Frieren so similarly is causing a bit of struggle to understand who you are talking about sometimes.

I believe the root of the problem is that you put emphasis on the end of the word, causing it to become Fe-ərn instead of Fərn.
