Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claiming whistleblowers with direct knowledge of the July 13 Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, considered it a “loose” security event. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, attempted to assassinate the former president during the rally.

According to Hawley, the whistleblowers say this means canines were not used at security, people were given access backstage without usual clearance and there was less security personnel around the podium and the event perimeter.

Secret Service agents dashed up to the former president and quickly removed him from the stage in Butler.

Mr Trump could be seen ducking for cover behind the lectern.

The former president was then driven quickly from the scene in an armoured vehicle.

That would explain why he was on the stage so long after the shots rang out. It would also explain why they stopped to let him get his shoes as he wanted to and why they actually stopped to let him do that fist pump thing not once, but twice.

The behavior of verified agents I've witnessed in the past would have had him off of that stage within seconds; they would have told him to hell with your shoes and they absolutely wouldn't have paused to let him do those fist pumps.

That woman just to the right of him in the 1st or 2nd row, who sat down and started filming everything and didn't even react when the shooting started is making more sense every day.
