What is Basic Income and why do we need it

[EN] While the implementation of a basic income may be easy in some and nearly impossible in other countries, my idea with this video was not to show basic income as the only solution to the many problems we (will) have. I wanted the concept of basic income to be understood, so we can all have a broader view and find suitable solutions which could fit (almost) everyone.

when you hear the words "right to WORK - changed to the RIGHT TO EXIST!" you have a moment of hope that the world can be a better place!

I would love a basic income guarantee. Not only would I not have to stress about being able to pay my bills, but I'd be able to use my time to pursue my hobbies and goals. I'd still work, of course.

love the video. one thing i think should be this idea of "choosing to work". i've been so conditioned by this society that my whole body screams "BUT THEN WE WONT GET ANYTHING DONE!" hahaha....so i think that for the purposes of marketing that should be removed lol. i do understand...if we have a society like this then yes, ppl get to CHOOSE to work, if they want to work, how they want to work, how they want to apply themselves, stress levels wil be down down down. i love it, this is the transition the world needs. and the country who does it first will have such an economic advantage and be such a beacon of light to the rest of the world, o my god. economic prosperity will go up, happiness, up, ppl will generally be more desiring to work because they can take that week off and think about what they REALLY want to do, REEAAAALYYY WANT TO DO lol with noo pressure as their basic needs are supported. love it. it would be truly a renaissance of inspired creative energys. great vid

Basic income is the future! Experiments in Canada, London, the US, Namibia and India have shown that it WORKS: the poverty disappears, people spend their time more useful, get healthier and kids get better study results.

So you will get freedom to choose to work. And if you choose not to work, or work part time, you will be literally supported by the working ones. Brilliant idea..

One step closet to the future. Many people can feel it.

Yeah this sounds a lot like "Bread and Circuses" and we know what happened to Rome with that model.

I support it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The more I research the more I agree with it... It will only work if a large portion of the population adopts this strategy... Otherwise, the capitalists will attack it... We have seen what the economic hitman are capable of... They see socialism then create a coup, or economic sanctions, or go to war with that country.... I do hope it works out though.... At least finland is a well respected country and may be able to persuade other nations to adopt similar tests...

The main problem with basic income in the west is uncontrolled immigration. You can't have both basic income and open borders like we have in EU.

Nice and thanks. I like it. It's just like I also think it should be done.
A Tax on Income, Wealth, and Consumption should be okay, I think.

THX for Your work - it's quite remarkable.

Pls allow me some aditional comments - maybe they will help clarify the matter:

1. There is no such thing like "work incentive" - this indignite wording comes from people who also support slavery. All human beings always contribute to what they feel is important to them - therefore they don't need to be incentivized.

We (as mankind) really need to get rid of that phrase.

Reality is:
most of the work is done unpaid - or who would think women needed to be incentivized to take care for their children or their sick/hadicaped relatives?

So, if somebody talks about incentivizing - that means, this person believes any other person would not work deliberately, except from him/her.

2. It leeds also to a very important aspect of wording:

please use labour instead of work - because then it is clear, that we are talking about a specific part of work (as work is everything human beings do).

If You can agree on those two suggestions, then we won't need an untaxed gap. In other words:
every single currency-unit that is made on top of that (no matter if it is for leasing, producing or investing) should be taxed at a flat-tax of 50%.

Again, we need collectively reconsider our story-telling:
taxation is nothing bad - because it is just paying the community for the infrastructure that is also necessary for all of us and specially benefits those who make business.

3. Said that, please understand, that an Unconditional Basic Income is nothign else than a tax allowance - therefor it is paid and we don't need to have any doubts about that (for those who do not believe in that, just try to understand this really important issue).

4. Please consider a 5. possible reaction on work - it can be left undone (which is always the case if the ressources needed are not available).

Thank You.

I *highly* disagree with a gradual UBI implementation. It entirely defeats the purpose of UBI to only give a partial UBI at first... it will not impact poverty and unemployment if people don't have a full living dividend.

In my country The Netherlands there will be small scale experiments on the basic income concept to see if it works..

Why not remove minimum incomes in order to open up job opportunities to those less experienced workers so that they can build their wealth? For example, a young kid trying to make a few bucks. Once an individual has some experience/references under his belt, he will be more valuable to future employers and able to earn more wealth. If no employer can pay less than X money/time, people who don't have experience/skills/abilities to be worth X money/time for their labor won't be able to find work. They don't have a path to improve. Those workers are left in a situation where they are unable to find work, or they become dependent on welfare or charity! Please consider people who are less fortunate than yourself. Not everyone is born in to wealth.

If we assume everyone is dependent on welfare, which is financed via taxes, this stifles motivation to work because welfare will cover your basic expenses and working harder for more money results in less money due to taxation. Also, this stifles innovation because the risk/reward is less advantageous to start a new business venture for the next iphone, etc.

There is another, more important reason a basic income via taxation is a problem. It is immoral to steal. It's 2016. It's the future. We got rid of legalized chattel slavery. Now, let's get rid of legalized theft.
