Important info:
Memory clock of MX 440 SE isn't 333 MHz SDR
it's 166 MHz SDR. GPU-Z, Aida and Everest
didn't properly detected real Graphics memory clock.
Fortunately @Super Mario informed me about this.
Some cards from GeForce2 MX and GeForce4 MX
(Abit Siluro T400 for example) have this issue
with fake DDR detection. It's probably caused by
MPLL doubling. I will post correct data about
MX 440 SE SDR and MX 400 SDR in my future benchmarks.

I was benchmarking an MX420, FX5200 and FX5500 on WinXP (to decide for which low-profile card for a sff Win98 build) and the MX420 beat both of them (just by a very small margin, but still).
There wasn't even a thought in my mind that the MX420 was the fastest of the three. So I came to youtube to confirm.

Two trash cards.

I got lured into buying an FX5200 simply because it was the new FX series, supported DX9, and was relatively expensive for a low end card (£77). What a mistake. Barely had better performance than my Gainward GF2 MX 400. So I sold it to a friend who only played Ceasar 3 and Starcraft Broodwar, and he was happy enough.

Also got conned into buying an MX440-SE. The guy in the shop told me it was "better" than a Geforce 3, which only cost £10 more. Believing him, I got the 440-SE and took it home. Performance in Quake III was pretty good and the colours looked solid, but loading up Morrowind showed how slow the card was AND no pixel shaders on the water. So I took it back, and thought - fuck it - borrowed an extra £100 from my Dad and bought a Ti4800SE.

I still have that Ti4800SE! Legendary card, served me well for two years back then. Eventually replaced with a 6800XT which I unlocked with Rivatuner into a full blown 6800GT. By then, I had vowed never to make another mistake when buying a GPU.

That GF 4 MX 440SE has 166 mhz SD ram. There is no 333 mhz SD ram. Also the results are practically identical with the GF 4 MX420 with 333 mhz 64-bit.

The only difference in FarCry is terms of graphics is the water. That's a bit disappointing, meaning that the game was pretty much DX7.

In Counter Strike and Half-Life the configuration with the fx 5200, uses much more cpu than that of the mx 440. Does anyone know why?
