Today Lcpl Jared Schmitz was brought back home. He was one of the brave marines who was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, 20, of St. Charles is among 13 service members who have been awarded the Purple Heart. The 13 troops were killed Aug. 26 as they were helping to screen Afghans and others at the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport. At least 169 Afghans were also killed in the bombing, as they struggled to get into the airport and on flights out of the country.

I have been doing tribute videos for years around the Missouri area. I have always said that our community shows out for our first responders and military members. Today is something I have never seen before. The amount of people on the highway and on the overpasses is something you can not capture on video. With so many emotions today I think everyone left with pride in our country. St.Louis this is why I love it here. This place will forever be my home. Thank you for showing up today and sending this hero home. RIP Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz.

Just a baby but a baby with honor, courage and a belief in his country that many adults in leadership roles fail to possess… you rock Jared. Eternally grateful. God speed

The respect being shown to a Fallen Hero and the family from complete strangers of every age, race, and religion has restored my faith in humanity 🇺🇸

This is how America really feels. Don’t let the instigators on the small screen shake your confidence in our nation. Their numbers are very tiny. You made a difference Marine. Thank You for your service to our great nation. Peace be with your family at this most difficult time…

I remember my husband's escort. It was so incredibly helpful to see so many who never knew him still pay there respects and stand to show there respects for there sacrifice it was shocking to see so many. 4 kids he gave me who miss him terribly but they know why daddy ain't here and what he did to keep our countrie safe. Bless your falling loved one♡ so sorry for your loss. Was he in the military vehicle or funeral car?
