Doing as much of the Skyscale collection I can in a day for 4 days, nearly quit doing the jumping puzzles, and had to take more than a month break immediately after getting the mount.

I definitely recommend the mindset that it's going to take a while and that's fine. It will help you later when you start making legendaries.

As someone who's played since the beta, my mistake to share is not realizing Guild Wars 2 wiki not only exists, but is accessible from in the game! Just type /wiki followed by an ability, item, NPC, etc. or for items, just shift+left click. This will launch a tab in your default browser directly to the official wiki. I spend *literal hours* there theorycrafting (because I love theorycrafting), but it's great for quick "Where the heck does [Ball of belly button lint] come from?" stuff too

I love that there isn't a strict tank and healer. Feeling forced to play those rolls in other mmo's just to get qued up fast or invited.

Biggest first-time progression tip:
There IS a path forward. Do the story chapters as soon as they pop. Do the story version of the dungeons as soon as they pop. This content will feel way too easy and redundant if you progress via map completion, then go back and do the story. And as such, you'll learn some bad habits in combat, and won't appreciate the significance of equipment stats, and you'll hit the late-game stuff and be annoyed when you get insta-killed by a group boss or something. Beyond this, do what you want - but there is an "optimal" path for your first run, to get the most out of the story and the progression system, and that's to actually do the story.

Biggest gameplay tip:
Don't use the raptor. Yes, it's awesome. Yes, it feels great. But the core content wasn't built for it, and wasn't designed for you to leap over all the enemies in a zone. You'll miss interesting details, you'll miss out on basic combat experience, you'll find jumping puzzles more frustrating (because you'll be trying to use the mount to cheat your way through jumps) and you'll rewire your brain to think that anything other than a smooth linear path is a frustrating inconvenience, which means you'll resent some of the more interesting zones in the game precisely because they're not built for raptor speed-running.

This is the first mmo I’ve ever played because my girlfriend convinced me too, your videos are really helping me get the hang of it! She’s so good at these that I feel a little bit judged in a way, when I’m just trying to be a little magical plant man making maps of a new world :)

Biggest mistake I made was listening to YouTubers telling what classes I should and shouldn’t play, I heard the elementalist is hard and you shouldn’t play it as your first character and I took it to heart, but after trying all classes and trying the elementalist I love it, it’s easy for me to play.

Kind of a new player myself, my advice to the others would be that there's no FOMO in this game unlike other MMO's. Gw2 provides you the freedom to do whatever interests you instead of whatever makes you stronger because there's very little vertical progression in this game. Majority of performance differences stem from player skill and not gear.

I have been playing GW2 for about 4 years now and regret not taking the time to spend my mastery points wisely, especially the ones for central Tyria. Sometimes it feels PAINFUL to obtain mastery points on certain maps through achievements. Now I’m learning to enjoy the hunt instead of looking for instant gratification.

I just started playing GW2 with my brothers last week and we're enjoyinh it. Players are respectful and friendly, got one guardian stayed with us for hours to help us with quest and how to understand the game. He's probably bored but hey you won't see that in other games.

My only hot take is, boosting to 80 immediately was extremely beneficial to me personally. As someone with a background in MMORPGs and turning everything into a spreadsheet, throwing myself into the deep end really satisfied that itch I’ve been missing. End game content with 10 tabs open on my other monitor, intaking as much information as possible, I really FELT my understanding for the game skyrocket. It’s case by case for sure, but for me, sink or swim in this game was my Your videos have been a regularity in my algorithm because of your information. This game rules, thanks for the content brotha ❤️

Just started little over a week ago and loving it coming from black desert online. Hands down the most confusing thing about this game is; 1) the different currencies, how to get them, and what theyre for. 2) Fractals/Strikes. Thankfully theres a lot of information out there

The only reason - and a very good one - to use the level 80 boost is to get all the mounts fast ( you should definitely do that and then IMMEDIATELY return to your starter zone and play entire personal story to learn core class before even attempting elite professions )

My bit of advice, learn the nuances of one character/spec first. There is likely one spec or elite spec you are eyeing when you start. So as you level that character up learn the nuances of it, the little mechanics it has. Learn what abilities do, which ones give you buffs, which ones take away buffs, is this something that can impact a break bar on a character? Is this move a damage over time (condition) ability? Once you ascertain what you are doing on what character or spec, you will be able to tackle most game content just knowing how to play your character!

For boosts, I think they are great, but my advice is not using it on your main character you want to play. Roll through the first zones, work on the map completion, work on the story, learn the class. Then when that character is levelled, if you want to try something else, maybe it is boost time!

i always follow the story quest not because of the same mindset of yours, but because its simply giving good-constant exp to progress

#7 is spot on. I remember the first time I asked for help was against a bandit champ, it felt like 5 people just popped up out of nowhere. It was awesome

I just came back to GW2 after about 2 years playing other MMOs. I was so taken back with how nice the community is. I'd forgotten how different and supportive most people are, and it's taking time to adjust to everyone around me not being an asshole troll

Such a great video Caff Dad!! Always so flipping helpful. My biggest mistake so far (I’m still new) was expecting it to be like other MMO’s. Then I watched your newest vid about what makes new players leave. I realize I can and should just go the direction my curiosity leads me instead of keep wondering “ya but is this a waste of time?”
Secondly, I assumed gw2 was holy trinity, and even worse I assumed only certain professions can heal, come to find out like every class can build into healing like crazy. This game is WILD.
