‘Dr. Phil’ Panel: The Debate on Quiet Quitting

Refusing to answer an email or call after working hours, not doing a work assignment you felt wasn’t in your job description, and insisting that if your employer wants you to go above and beyond, they need to pay you for it. Does that sound ridiculous? Quiet quitting, the idea that employees only do what is in their job description, between the hours they were hired to do it, and nothing more has become more than a viral social media hashtag; it has become a movement by employees of all ages. Dr. Phil speaks with an employment and labor attorney who says quiet quitting makes perfect sense, because if employers want employees to work extra, then they need to pay them extra. Then, hear from a young man who says he is currently quiet quitting. Why does he say he won’t put in extra effort without being paid for it? Plus, business owners say quiet quitters are just a bunch of slackers, undependable employees hiding behind a cute hashtag to make lazy sound better. (21032RR)

Imagine calling someone lazy because they do what they were hired and paid to do.

Dr Phil siding with the "business owners" instead of being non-biased by cutting off the "quiet quitters" side is absolutely pathetic and shows how he's either out of touch with reality in this situation, or he's bought and paid for by the other side.

This does not work for our country 🤓 yes it does. No one is saying we can’t work hard but we want to be fairly compensated.

We want to be treated better by the companies that employ us…

“OH YOUR JUST LAZY AND ENTITLED!”

Don't expect people to do more then you pay them for. Pay is the proof to the employee that he/she is valued.

People are finally figuring out companies are not your friend.

You might work your heart out, you’ll get a tap on the back and that new position goes to the a external hire or bosses’s friends.

Not worth forsaking your life, health, friends and family for a company that’ll fire you anytime just to save some couple of bucks regardless of for how long or how much soul you put into your work.

Companies hire and fire all the time, 0 remorse, so if you want a raise try switching to a better paying position on another company, also with 0 remorse.

So let me see if I understand. Quiet quitting is doing what you are supposed to do and being called lazy for it?

I'm a boomer, and I can tell you that most employers have no real loyalty to their employees. Yet they expect loyalty from their "human resources". Employees, to management, are morally no different to them than the office chair that they fart on.

If I’m expected to go above and beyond, then so should my pay.

Man Phil kept interrupting the ones we actually wanted to hear speak, but they want let the guy saying we’re all turning communists and his son who he put in his job right outta college while sitting next to a lady who expects everyone to be passionate about what she wants but wants them to think it’s what they want. Damn😂😂😂

One thing i wish I told my younger self…don’t be too good at your job cause then they are going to eventually expect you to do everything and pick up everyone else’s slack.

The gentleman at the end who said productivity is the worst it’s been since the 1940s, that is so incredibly false. Productivity in comparison to compensation is the worst that it’s ever been. We are doing more for less than any of our previous generations in modern society which is exactly what has lead to the issues they are speaking about. I am NOT going to work myself to the bone and let time with my loved ones slip away. I’d rather be broke and present than rich and absent any day.

People are quiet quitting because there hours are getting cut, benifits are being cut and underemployment is rampant

You can tell that every time Ryan has a good point, Dr Phil interrupts him.

I think the guy with the nose piercing really nailed it, most people have more important things in their life and want to go do/ be with those important things to actually enjoy life.

I chose working for myself because I didn’t want the lazy corporate middle manager OR the high powered late-nights-at-the-office executive’s life.

My perfect work life balance means I get to work when I want and if I want to make more money, I hustle harder and find more work. Freedom is way more valuable than a high salary.

I am a silent quitter. It doesn’t mean that I don’t do my job as I am paid to. It means that I know that the company doesn’t care about me in the end. What happened to my mom is my inspiration for taking this stance. She was accounts payables and receivables (a very difficult job) for over a decade at GFI Digital in St. Louis. How was she rewarded in the end for her loyalty and hard work? Her manager let her go for not “knowing excel”, which was never required for her job nor was any measurable standard established.

After she was let go, Home Depot was the only place that would hire her. Too overqualified was the excuse she was given before that. I offered her the chance to retire early and live with me because Home Depot was destroying her legs since they wouldnt give cashiers anything to sit on.

That manager has since been promoted. And while the employees are working hard to bring in profit, the owner pays himself to entertain potential customers with hunting trips and gatherings at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Screw GFI Digital and any company like them!
