Dr. Phil discusses the highly debated topic of reparations. The HB 40 bill was passed in Congress last year, which establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans. Many feel this isn’t enough and insist there must be financial reparations given. Some cities, such as San Francisco, propose giving up to $5 million to some black Americans who qualify. Should this happen? Patrice E. Jones, a descendant of both a slave and slave owner, weighs in on the reparations debate, along with Civil Rights Activist Bob Woodson, and Professor William Darity, who outlined his plan for reparations in his book, “From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century.” Also on the panel are political writer Joshua Ferguson and anti-racist educator Ashani Mfuko. Stop thinking you’re a victim and your life will improve start being a driver and not a passenger in your life

My ancestors did not own slaves. I fail to see why my tax dollars should be used to pay reparations to people who are/were not slaves themselves. It's nonsensical.

Some folks will never get it. Save your breath . Some Don’t want to learn true American History. Some are to lazy and arrogant to listen and educate themselves. Caring people ask a simple question…how can I help? If you see your brother thirsty give him water, if you see your brother truly hungry feed him, if you see him naked cloth him…. We are a sick nation. God’s wrath will be much worst than reparations ! A blind man could see something is not right in the black community

Time to pay up? You're out of your mind. Furthermore she's proof she's not wanting equal treatment she wants special treatment.

I just love how she totally ignores the fact that there were black slave owners. Show me the money that's her game. Reparations are paid on a monthly basis and have been for years.

Who has it worse, the blind kid with good parents, or the orphan that can see? You have no idea, none of us do. We really (like really really) need to stop comparing traumas; we have absolutely zero idea how to even approach the problem -- never mind "solve" it.

IF I can prove that my ancestors never owned anyone, can I file for an exemption from paying any portion of reparations?

Her defensiveness to the Latino asking a basic question says it all, “let me get mine.” To that I say, “No.” my family just got here and I am not paying for a slaveholders debt. GTFOH.

2:20 - “it has to start somewhere” and why do you get to decide that it should start with black people first?

These wonderful people should go to Africa and find the descendants of those who sold their ancestors into slavery. This was an African cultural norm.

I wanted to swing by and laugh at those individuals that believe in reparations as something reasonable.

The civil rights activist completely destroyed that sister. BP were successful in a time of real Oppression which means that BP have absolutely no excuses for their failures today. Stop the cap. Y’all just want more free money.

The "Star-Spangled Banner" has four stanzas, and the third stanza goes like this:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The third stanza of the "Star-Spangled Banner" is referring to the American Revolution, and specifically to the Battle of Baltimore in 1814. The stanza begins by asking where the enemy soldiers are who had boasted that they would conquer and destroy the United States. The speaker then describes how the bloodshed of war has cleansed the ground of the enemy's presence, and that their defeat is a testament to the strength and resilience of the American people.

The stanza goes on to reference the fact that the British army had employed both hired soldiers and slaves in their efforts to defeat the United States. The speaker describes how these individuals were unable to escape the violence and horror of the battle, and were ultimately unable to secure their own safety. The stanza ends triumphantly, with the image of the American flag still flying high, representing the victory of the American people and the values of freedom and bravery that the country stands for.
