China has carried out mass simulated missile strikes on Taiwan, in military exercises that included “sealing off” the island.

Taiwan considers itself a sovereign state. China sees it as a breakaway province that will eventually be brought under Beijing's control - by force, if necessary.

Beijing began the exercises after Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen met the US House Speaker in California, which China described as an act of “collusion” by the United States.

Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Shaimaa Khalil.

1:58 “what Taiwan says or thinks isn’t important”. That’s all you need to know about the Chinese mindset.

I was so hopeful for the new millennium when I watched the clock strike midnight on 31 December 1999. Unfortunately the same mistakes are allowed to be made. Old men talk and young men die.

Ruscia fought brilliantly in CGI animations too. Off the parade ground? Not so much.

I've been living in Taiwan on and off since 2011 and I have never met anyone who considers themselves Chinese or wants to be part of China. In fact, they take it as an offensive if you call them Chinese. They're proud to be Taiwanese.

Only the simulated missiles can be accurate....😂😂😂

Am I supposed to be intimidated by a motion graphic that shows only 2 missiles landing?

Taiwan should partner with Disney and throw some proper CGI back at them

@0:46 Funny. Out of the 42+ missiles in that halfassed graphic, only two made it to land.

Correction: A "simulation" isn't a "show of strength." Strength is measured by the level of ability to overcome a given measure of resistance. No resistance level was entered into this (simulation).
If they choose to carry out an actual attack, they may find that (uncalculated) resistance to be insurmountable.
