People who get all bent out of shape from tracing are just afraid of having competition. Tracing as a practice technique is absolutely fine, it only becomes unethical when you try to sell something traced as your own work. Practice the most effective way for YOU, and don't listen to the petty jokers.

Tracing the master’s works with intention to humbly learn has been top 3 most powerful tools for my growth. Be honest with yourself and others! If you trace a master’s work and show other, just tell them how the master is an amazing artist who inspires you. It’s just about being honest and humble, not the act of tracing itself.

Honestly this best method to learn to do anything in art design character, props environments. Art books are great source to know what they are doing right. Great video. I will the tracing method as a warm-ups

Oml yes! Tracing helps so much. It is really what helps you to get a feel of everything you draw. Tracing should really be encouraged more for beginners to find their style.
Just don't advertise the traced work as your own, as it should be used solely for practice.

The first step in my learning process in art is to trace over the reference and draw guidelines. Volumetric guidelines, shapes, forms… I take notes on the side with observations. Great vid.

I honestly need to trace more eyes
They get a bit out of shape and sometimes end up cross-eyed, nothing wrong with it but it's not for that character

For how long do you trace drawings(estimated rough time)? At what point does this become mental memory? One exercise I try to do is draw the reverse pose of what I’m referencing. I still struggle with mental drawing. I do my best to not use references but sometimes it’s unavoidable.
