Advantages of Dutch/ Kickboxing Guard

Here are some of the pros to use the kickboxing/ dutch style guard.

I like the idea of keeping a rock hard shield for defense and basing against power shots for pressure counter punching. But I do like to keep my fists unclenched nice and relaxed in open space and in range to throw with speed as well like in mma or boxing. It’s all situational

The area right behind your ears is wide open for a lights out Bas Rutten style palm or bone strike. It looks like a step up from the MT higher and wider position.

My favorite Dutch style is Lucian Carbin, he does lots of same side punch to kicks or kicks to punches. Dutch style has had some of the meanest strikers to ever compete

I'm more of a kick/knee guy so I use the long guard a lot.

I’ve been trying to adapt Cus D’Amato’s peekaboo style for kickboxing sparring (without bobbing side to side) and I see the Dutch style is very close, dealing with knees as well

Once I asked why Thais wouldn't learn more hand boxing nowadays, since it's a handicap of them. One of them answered me "because that would imply having Thai guys learning from Westerners and we won't have that". Well, at least he wasn't a hypocrite.

muay thai’s gaurd isn’t even that flared out that ain’t the thai gaurd that’s giving somone a free head punch (i still use dutch gaurd in muay thai though)
