High guard also forces the opponent to throw hooks wich you can use in your favor, getting close and expecting a hook can get you to slip at the right time and counter ...
Great video! 🙏🏻

This is how I see it: there are times when high guard works best and there are also times when high guard sucks.

Hey Tony I would love if you could do a video on how to throw a good flick jab like Ali or Fury. Big fan from Canada

A breakdown on both proper lead and rear hooks would be awesome! In the beginning of my training I used to get icey elbows which was horrid! and today theyre much better but still feel like improvement can be had.

That said Tony, great videos & editing man! Ive learned a lot in only a few short days & improved my training tenfold, thank you for the channel & that which you pay forward 🤙🏻

A great example of an effective high guard was Michael Watson vs Nigel Benn. Benn exhausted himself flailing away at Watson's high guard. Watson kept cool, picked Benn off and eventually stopped him with a jab.

Joshua Clottey also used an effective high guard. Some other cons are not being able to visually pick up opponents that move laterally to either side. That falls with the vision being obstructed con of not being able to pick up hooks or looping punches not coming down the middle. The high guard can also be pot shotted from angles that expose openings that otherwise would not be open while standing directly in front. Strong opponents can split high guards with uppercuts and shovel hooks to the stomach. They may be partially blocked but they still do damage.

The blocked vision is the major negative for me. The opportunity to throw counters isn’t there with the high guard.
Great vid Tony. Keep em coming bro.

This peekaboo method is best when your closing range so you could then punch. Especially with this I feel like you must have great reflex training, and footwork to truly master that high guard so it doesn’t become a crutch for the fighter.

3:03 I like to feel that rattle in my brain. It lets me know when I can come back with a counter punch

Thank you for sharing your awesome experience! Quick question about hi guard. I am 178cm and 100kg. Wide shoulders. And i can even put my hands so close. When i cover my head - body is open. How i can fix it? More footwork or philadelphia’s shell?

Another good one, boxed with a high guard during my last fight and defended well but found it hard to work an effective offence from, didn't take much damage but lost by decision. Think it could work well as part of wider strategy but on its own found it quite limiting.

VIDEO IDEAS:
Hand trapping
Stance shifting o switching
A dedicated video on the right hand to the body would also be great since i have had trouble on that punch
