Install Windows on a 2019/2020 MacBook without Boot Camp Assistant

This video covers installing Windows 10 on a 2019 or 2020 model MacBook Air or Pro equiped with a T2 chip. The goal is to install Windows without using Boot Camp Assistant and still get everything functional.

In short, I'll go through the preparation like downloading drivers and creating USB drive for installation. Then we'll disable the T2 startup security and we'll repartition the disk for a dual boot installation. Next, we'll run through the installation, load drivers for the SSD and once installed, get the rest of the drivers in place.

Absolute life saver. Boot Camp Assistant would not work with my MacbookPro11, 2 whatsoever. This takes longer but I ran into no issue with at any stage.

so everything worked following this guide. nice video! my only problem i'm seeing is the bluetooth driver is not functional the windows support software installed everything just fine and windows update installed the rest just fine but the only driver that failed was the bluetooth and there seems to be an issue with the graphics card driver so i had to undo everything and install using bootcamp assistant on imac. i found my issue with unreal engine (just had to switch project to use DX11 instead of Dx12)and although this install of windows ran much faster and smoother than the default windows install that you get from mac bootcamp assistant i still found that this created more problems and only after 2 hours of use i got a blue screen of death related to the graphics driver after searching the error phrase on google. so i ended up just uninstalling this using imac partition to remove the ms dos partition from the beginning and it successfully gave me a green check mark and done with no errors but when the mac shut down and i turned it on later i ran into the blue screen of death from the windows partition that had been successfully removed so it seems brigadier remained inside the boot loader for the imac i don't know how to turn that off and remove it. i had bootcamp set to boot from Win drive so it must've got stuck in the boot sequence after i deleted the Win partition.

so this left some artifacts that basically broke the boot for mac if i didn't hold down option to select the imac hard drive i had to remove using Time machine, thank god i had a recent Time Machine from last week

so just be cautious guys. each mac model is equipped with different hardware and some of those hardware can no longer be updated and are no longer supported by the hardware suppliers therefore some apps such as Maya, Blender, Unity, Unreal engine WILL require the latest graphics drivers and you'll encounter so many problems if you cant upgrade or update

so it's better to just use the original imac since those same drivers seem to be supported by apple. i never see a "graphics driver is not supported" error message running the same exact version of DX12 unreal engine using imac but i see it running it on windows bootcamp and i still see it using this tutorial. so it seems AMD stopped supported updates for Readeon 5300 cards which is the one Apple used for imac20, 1 which is the 5k retina 27 in 2020 model. so running unreal engine on that machine works fine but bootcamp version of windows in this machine does not have a working amd radeon 5300 gpu card after install and after apple windows support software. to me this seems dumb but it's enough for me to stick with imac

I found that it was better to just install windows 10 via bootcamp, finish installing bootcamp windows support software, updating windows and then using disk manager which is built in windows to just delete the macos partition and other macos related partition. I am now left with just Windows 10 as a single os without any issues. Lastly, I used Paragon Partition Manager to extend Windows partition. This way everything was still functional including built in keyboard, trackpad and wifi + bluetooth.

For MacBookPro8, 1 create the Win10 boot disk with the software linked.

1. There is no need for 7zip, the brigadier archive is just standard zip file. Right click to properties and set Administrator for all users.
2. Extract it to the download folder and run CMD
3. Type “CD downloads” press enter
4. Then type “brigadier.exe –model MacBookPro8, 1” press enter
5. Copy paste the bootcamp folder brigadier created in downloads to your USB boot disk.
6. Don’t connect the boot disk on the Mac, power up and hold down COMMAND, OPTION, SHIFT, R. (THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD BOOT TO DISK UTLITY.)
7. Format the Primary/internal disk drive to FAT32 GUID map. Name it anything, it’s going to get a new name anyway. Shut down and connect boot disk.
8. Power up Mac holding down Option and select the Win10 boot disk.
9. The rest is pretty much like installing Win10 on any machine, some drivers from bootcamp install. I had to connect ethernet and then the rest followed.

There was no need to connect external mouse or keyboard for any of these steps.
Brigadier froze at 9% the first time, I had to give it Admin rights.
I hope this is right, I just finished mine. I don’t think I forgot anything.

Great work
