To enable subtitles for Japanese speakers, please change your captions settings use the Settings (Gear) button at the bottom of the screen. Full closed captions are also available. We are aware that some YouTube platforms (such as AppleTV) do not support CC, but we wanted to ensure the best viewing experience for people of all languages and abilities. For those new to captions on YouTube, you can also change your text settings (size, color and loads more) using that gear icon. A special thanks to all our patrons who helped fund this project. We simply couldn't have done it without you. Enjoy the show.

Soken being the guy who hyped up the team in its darkest moment and excitedly pledging his full support to Yoshi-P creates such an incredible context for Yoshida's words at Fanfest 2021. "I'm so glad my best friend is back." Soken was there for him from the very beginning

How are you able to do all of this? Getting one of the biggest most closed-off (especially to the west) game companies to open up about one of their biggest failures is unbelievable. You guys are absolutely incredible, and the fact that you're able to do this with crowdfunding is absolutely astounding! Great work as usual.

The localization for this game is first-rate. At times, I have to remind myself that all the dialogue, descriptions, and so on, was original conceived of and written in Japanese. Even the idioms work, so Koji and his team definitely deserve major props.

Cheeky.

I love the candidness from Yoshi P. Very few people would dare to talk about their company as having acted arrogantly, especially an employee for a Japanese company.

He's pretty dead on too. Square was always known as trailblazers in console graphics, especially post PS1. I recall being speechless seeing pictures of FFX for the first time; I just couldn't believe those where actually real graphics in a video game. And I guess getting that much praise for so many years can eventually go to your collective head. Almost like they needed a big failure to be brought back down to earth, and to realize they weren't miracle makers that could do no wrong.

Miracle worker, definition:
1) A person who seems to be able to perform miracles.
2) Naoki Yoshida

And now it's June of 2021. FF 14 is probably the most popular MMO on the market, people from WoW are flocking to the game in masses, and the hype for Endwalker is gigantic. What an astonishing journey this game and team had.

I truly believe the work that Danny is doing, is so important. This industry unlike others, has greatly fallen behind when it comes to preserving its history. So I think the work No Clip is doing, and other folks like Drew Scanlon is extremely important.

And the quality of No Clip is unlike anything I've seen before. Danny should be proud of this work. I truly believe we will be watching things like this documentary 20 years from now.

This made me shed a tear. I was there watching the calamity at the end. To this date I get goosebumps from watching people talk about the final hours of FFXIV 1.x
Not many people know about this now-a-days but we that were at the 1.x have characters with a tattoo on their back that is only given to characters that survived the calamity.

Watching this after the 2021 Fan Festival, it hits harder

It's so hard to wrap my mind around just how difficult a pitch that must've been to make and consider. Even now, years after we know it was successful, thinking that Yoshida-san had to talk to corporate and suggest they need to start from scratch and invest yet more time, money and manpower into a failure that might fail again and irreparably damage the Final Fantasy brand forever... That's a damn hard pitch to make.

These interviews with Yoshi P really blew me away. I played WoW for many years, and listened to a lot of Ion Hazzikostas talk about that game, and everything he said was always lawyer speak. You can smell the bullshit. With Yoshi P, he speaks so candidly, and you can tell he's a very chill and down to earth guy. I couldn't believe the stuff he said, and it makes me even more glad I recently became a FF14 player myself. Blizzard would never do something like this, rebuilding a game from the ground up after it failed. No way. Square Enix is a lot of things, but you have to give them credit with this, this was amazing.

To the devs, thanks. From a brand new player in 2020 you're game is great.

One of my Discord friend recommended me FFXIV not long ago. Tbh I am one of those people who have never really played any of the the prior Final Fantasy games and was sceptical about it.

But I was kinda on verge of suspending my current WoW subscription. The MMO which had been part of my life for 7 years, I was starting to get weary of it. Most of my guild and friends had already moved on from it and I was just hanging around the major cities and doing nothing.

Amidst this ongoing lockdown, I decided to take the jump and bought the Complete edition and I couldn't had been more surprised! I am still pretty new to this game so I have minimal knowledge of the lore but once I found out this is actually a 2.0 of the orignal game, I had to know more as to what happened.

This was a brilliant watch! I can only imagine how fans who actually loved and cared for the OG game must had felt at the time of server shut down and when they found out about the 2.0 <3

"I thought I was just normal to grind for 12 hours to go up one level, only to go back down after pulling to many adds...then realized that's not normal." God bless you Koji Fox. That was exactly why I played FFXI for like 10 hours, then never went back

This is such an important story to be told, not just to give hope to developers/game creators that disasters can be righted but also to laud the great efforts by those in Square Enix that gave their all for their fans.

holy fuck. you're outdoing yourself. these documentaries are getting better and better. getting so much insight on the processes behind the gaming industry is fascinating. AND ON TOP OF THAT WITH SQUARE FUCKING ENIX. poor pr-guys were probably close to bawling their eyes with a red pen in their hands hehe.

but so honest and neat delivered, such honesty is giving companies like square big plus points in my book.
