Hi everyone! In this advanced guide, let's paint a NMM (Non-Metallic Metal) Steel Axe. Non-Metallic Metal is an advanced technique for painting the illusion of a metallic surface on a miniature using non-metallic paints, in this case shades of grey. So let's grab our brushes and get started!

The model featured in this video is an Ogre Maneater, heavily converted from the Orruk Megaboss kit from Age of Sigmar, along with lots of sculpting. You can check out photos of the painted and unpainted model on my Instagram page (link on my channel page).

I've been wrestling with NMM for a good while, now, and this video was a really good and clear explanation that pointed out to me some of the things I was doing incorrectly. Notably that while my glazing approach has the right idea, I'm not quite doing it right just yet. Emphasis on "just yet". Thanks for a really good video, Matt!

That turned out great, I’d love to see a video on glowing lighting off a weapon or flames to everything surrounding it

This was super cool! Brilliant idea to just have all your values pre-mixed in separate bottles. I tend to do it on my palette and just adjust tones as needed, but that is very efficient!

That is some really nice NMM Mr. Matt. I really like how the Incubi Darkness glaze looks over it. I never would have thought of that. Also love the contrast between the NMM weapons and the black armor on that ogre. Great color scheme. Hope to see some more of him. Cheers and Happy New Year sir.

Great guide! I struggle quite hard with simpler black to white based nmm so I will definitely try some of these tricks out

Very calm and interesting video painting with nothing pointless. I appreciate. I don't use contrast but I notice you are a canvas painter so brush strokes and light placement are very good. I have a question : how often do you change your brushes? Your technique use brushes very wet so it's very hard for the bristles in the long run, no?

Wishing you a very Happy New Year, sir! And a late congratulations on reaching 20k subs! Do you still plan on painting the Dwarf Lords with Shield Bearers?

love this and will sure come handy in the future.
Question: Do you ever try to merge old school style of painting with these techniques that are closer to a contemporary taste?
I'm painting a classic night goblin army (you know, 1992 kev adams models and stuff) and I'm sticking to a more sketchy, unrealistic style, more fitting for the vibe I wanna give to the army, but I'm definitely gonna try add some rust effect the NMM.
