Highlights aren't where light collects. The highlight is the part of the form that is reflecting light directly into your eye. Thats why highlights are in different places based on where you view the object from.

it works the same in drawing also fun fact forget wetting your finger get one of those cuboid erasers after drawing lighting in the same fashion then used the eraser corner in a circular motion with lightly

it's the best method to blend the shading... it's also good to add texture to 3d glass around objects and fade it so it still appears cloudy or transparent

That transition between values though! I still struggle to get the sweet spot of hydration on my paints, its either thick and gets grabby, or way too thin and just runs.

I'll figure it out eventually, but man am I being real slow on the uptake, lol!😂

I just wrap my models in a tangled ball of blue metallic tape. Works every time. Plus you can't see what model's underneath for extra stealth.
