Just have to clarify for all the wannabe rh null blood types. The blood isn’t actually gold in colour... It’s a very rare condition that has massive consequences if you ever sustain injury. It’s referred to as golden blood because of its rarity and a blood transfusion for anyone with the blood type is incredibly expensive- said to be worth its weight in gold. Wishing you had it is super disrespectful to the people who actually have it.

Another rare one is the Bombay phenotype. In order to form your A and B antigens on the red cell, the "H" antigen must be formed first via the H gene. If you're type O, your H antigen never gets converted to A or B, so you just have H. But in Bombay phenotype, you never inherit an H gene (hh genotype) at all. So, you're not type O, A, or B. And you can form antibodies against H, A, and B- which means you can only receive blood from another Bombay individual.

Never heard of this before! I found out years ago when donating blood that I’m rh negative, but rh null sounds absolutely wild and kinda terrifying.

I have RH negative blood and had to have a shot to prevent my body from making antibodies that would kill my baby. We both had to have a shot after she was born for safety. It’s weird, but I’m glad it was a planned pregnancy bc other women have lost their babies with the same blood type and not knowing. It doesn’t effect my life in any other way that I know though, just it’s uncommon to have this blood type.
