Do you need to go to welding school to become a welder?

Working mechanical trades, hvac installer and pipe fitter and welder for 11 years. Never met one that lasted who went to a welding school. Get in the field and find some tradesmen that you can learn from. I started as job site labor and cleanup crew, now I’m making 35+ an hour, sometimes double that, everywhere I go.

Bro been pipe welding for well over 14 years and you never stop learning new tricks of the trade. Never went to school for welding I went for industrial engineering and became a welder after. Also there is no such thing as a best welder and schools can't teach greatness only true experience can do that... But everyone has to start somewhere so school is a good place to start...

Dinosaurs convince themselves that diving into the industry right away w/o training by being a hand barely welding for 6 months to a year is magically gonna make you a better welder than students who constantly practice everyday welding on simulators. Ppl simply dont understand that 6 months of focused training is more vital than 6 months of being a hand. It's like saying playing football right away is more important than actually training the basics first 🤦🏽‍♂️

That's true shit, I work with people who been welding for 20+ years and I'm a 6 year guy. I pass all my tests first go and they look good, as I'm the only welding school student we got 😅
