Meningitis is a disease of the brain's protective membranes (meninges). The three types include: fungal, bacterial, and viral – all of which can kill patients if it's not detected early on.

Along with other meningitis nursing interventions, patients must be treated with the right drugs (typically antibiotics). This video covers everything Meningitis-related you’ll see on the NCLEX.

Can I ask why we have the patient empty their bladder prior to lumbar puncture? We don’t do these often in the ER but once in a blue moon. Did an LP yesterday and brushing up on my knowledge thanks ;)

Regarding the question that says the client is admitted with bacterial meningitis, I thought the first step I should take is to assess always? Why administer a bolus? Can someone please explain?

Wouldn't patients on droplet precautions need to wear a surgical mask as well if transported outside the room?
