Rush - The Big Money (FULL LENGTH Music Video)

This is the FULL LENGTH music video for The Big Money. What you likely haven't ever realized, the version of The Big Money music video that is uploaded on the official Rush YouTube channel and featured on the Rush Chronicles DVD, is approximately 40 seconds shorter than the full studio track. It would appear that it was a single edit where songs are slightly shortened for promotional use, such as radio airplay.

This full-length version can be found at the end of the original "Grace Under Pressure Tour" VHS as a bonus. As far as our research has shown, the US version of the Grace Under Pressure Tour VHS and the obscure "CD Video" release (not to be confused with laserdisc) are the only mediums in which this full-length video can be found.

For years, nobody had uploaded this full version of the music video to YouTube until we uploaded a VHS rip of it in July 2021. That old transfer had numerous issues that we wanted to correct, having gained more knowledge and equipment for better video capture. This video was captured using a Panasonic AG-1980 S-VHS VCR and DataVideo TBC-3000 capturing video at 720x480 interlaced using the lossless HuffyUV codec and 16-bit 48khz stereo raw audio.

The video has been non-AI upscaled to 1440p to allow for a higher-bitrate viewing, deinterlaced to 60fps (it would appear the 3D animations are the only part of the video that can/were intended to be viewed at 60fps), and encoded to h264 using a CRF of 18.

Interestingly, the official upload on Rush's channel uses the "single" cut, but instead of ripping from say, the Chronicles DVD, it uses a rather blurry master that has a handful of blink-and-you'll-miss-em alternate shots (not used here or on the Chronicles disc), almost like an early edit.

Always wondered why the "B" on the floor was as if it was drawn-in after-the-fact and there's a smudged circle around it is a different shine to it? Also the artistic choice to freeze-frame Alex for 1 second during the solo bits seems like an artistic choice. Is there a "making of" the video? I think there was on Boston's "Channel V" that discussed this and compared it with "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits. I must have like 10 versions of this song on various formats, Gold VCD, vinyl, red-vinyl pre-album-release, etc. Got a lot of airplay too and some early versions made it during some concerts with insane-Alex solo free-for-alls. Interesting side note, "Marathon" was used as a Diet Cherry Coke radio-commercial loosely, "From first to last, the taste can't be surpassed, the taste of Diet Cherry Coke really satisfies." Not sure if they got royalties on that one or if Coke tried to sneak it past..?
