Game Theory: The Animals in Animal Crossing Aren't Animals! (Animal Crossing: New Horizons)

Animal Crossing is PEOPLE! No, really! Theorists, this may be one of the most unexpected theories I've put out recently, but once you see it, you will never unsee it. I have gathered TONS of evidence that our player character is only SEEING the villagers of Animal Crossing as animals. They are not, in fact, ACTUAL talking, anthropomorphic animals. Have I said the word animals enough yet? Well get ready Loyal Theorists, I am about to blow your mind! Animals!

Well, there is literally a family tree in the museum that explains that the villagers are more "evolved" forms of our normal animals, or that at least they split somewhere in the tree from the "normal animals". There is even the fossil of a primate before the spot where your villager can pose. Basically they see less-evolved animals the same as we humans see monkeys.

In New Leaf, it's possible for grumpy characters to ask you what animal they'd be if they were an animal. Thing is, if you answer them with what animal they are, they're quick to point out that they already are that. So. There ya go.

Blathers' fear of bugs isn't irrational, it actually came from when he was young a bug laid an egg sack in his desk and he didn't notice it until it hatched and millions of little bugs came running out

I like how MatPat actually said "yeah its a game made for fun" after proposing his theory, instead of pretending its what's definitely happening.

I always figured it was just a case of branched evolution - one branch in each of the species that exist as a sapient species diverged from the main lines ages ago, and evolved similarly to humans from that point on. The realistic animals still exist because they took a different path, one that paralleled our animals' evolutionary paths precisely.
