wasnt there a theory pointing out that the main protagonist had hallucinations about people's appearances, or somewhat desired that look, and her brain had transformed it to appear that everyone looked that way ? i think this constant desire of wanting to look that way, cause her to think it was desirable by others as well, which was why her family went against it, because it wasnt real, it was just all her hallucinations, and that when she did undergo it, it failed due to intricate detailing and all that
