Living with Three Kidneys

Shuen Tam's thriving university life was turned upside-down at the age of 23 when she was diagnosed with kidney disease. Trammelled by the need for regular dialysis, her carefree days seemed over.

But her family was having none of it. All of them were determined to step forward to donate their kidneys to give Shuen a normal life, and in the end, it was her mother whose kidney was chosen. Thankfully, with the support of family and NKF, the transplant was successfully completed and Shuen could feel the cleansing effects of her mother's kidney almost immediately.

Shuen goes about her normal life today with 3 kidneys in her body. Realising that her mother's one kidney was enough to manage her body's needs, she strongly believes that we are given two kidneys so we can give one to those in need.
