5 years later and I still tie my shoes this way. Thank you, Matt Parker.

Not gonna lie, this video permanently changed my life. I actually forgot how shoes are normally tied xD

I'm using this knot every day since I watched this video many years ago. It's not just fast but also never unties by itself.

Anyone else watch "The Walking Dead"? Take a look at the zombies' shoes sometime. They've been shuffling around for many years, and their shoes are all perfectly tied.

Saw this video in middle school originally. I'm now in my second year of university, and I'm still tying my shoes this way. Thanks Matt for saving me countless hours that may have been wasted with unnecessarily complicated shoe-tying methodologies.

This feels like discovering that a banana is peeled easiest from the bottom end all over again. I'm astounded that such a superior technique is not common knowledge.

One thing you should have pointed out is that if you do the "foundation" the other way around you end up with a "knot" which unties very quickly. There is a great Ted talk by Terry Moore called "How to tie your shoes" which explains in detail how to spot the difference.
Also, I usually put both the thumb and the index finger under the loop (holding the strings with the remaining fingers) and just grab the other loop instead of swapping them.

I saw an image on Reddit depicting this knot as the "Ian Knot" about a year ago and I tie my shoes like this every day. So satisfying and easy once you get the hang of it.

Edit: came back to this video to reference it in a Reddit thread without realising I’d commented on it 7 years ago. If I reckon this saves me 6 seconds, once a day, I’ve saved myself about 12 days of my life so far! Can’t even remember the ‘normal’ way of tying laces 😂

I learned this knot as the "handcuff knot" as the two loops tighten when you pull the loose ends. I wouldn't imagine them as being very practical in a more dynamic situation.

One nice thing about this video is that it's approximately π minutes long.

I've been doing this ever since I saw Matt's video of a speech where this is included. It took a few days to get used to, but it's definitely worth it! Tying shoes is much more fun when it's this quick!

All the time I could've saved this year tying my shoes more efficiently, I've already spent up reading these comments.

This has saved me over 3 minutes of tying time in the last year, thanks :) 3 minutes well spent

I've tied my shoes like this for years. It honestly becomes the instinctual way to do it after a lot of practice.

"here in the outdoors, which I've heard a lot about" underrated joke in the first 10 seconds 😂
