I wanted to say thank you. I have two special needs kiddos with low muscle tone in their fingers- one 13 and one 11 and today they learned this technique in under 10 mins and have it down. They are so excited to be able to tie their own shoes!

Great method! I saw this a couple weeks ago and started to tie my shoes that way every day. As time went on, it became easier, faster and more automatic. The knot turns out to be a square not, unlike the old way, which I have been using for 64 years. Now my laces don't come loose halfway through my walks. Thanks! (Even the military basic training did not teach us to tie this way.

Guys, this method does not always work because of the initial knot tie. If it doesn't work for you, swap the thumb and index finger instructions (try thumb on left if you did it on the right). Note: index finger always goes underneath lace and thumb always goes above lace.
There is a pattern that is linked with the starting knot but it's hard to explain without a picture.
