The easter egg is not random though. It's likely a reference to undertale's kickstarter trailer. In the trailer Toby Fox says "You'll be sure to have a BALL!". So the ball easter egg is the ball Toby Fox promised to be in the game.

if before fighting undyne you killed a few monsters and spared her when you go to meet papyrus at her house he states that undyne doesn't befriend a murderer.
and if you continue playing when you reach Mtt resort you will encounter sans and he has some interesting dialog for you so go and checkout
