Cat Scratch of Dog's Eye.

This cute little dog tangled with a cat and came away with a punctured eyeball. Fortunately antibiotics, pain relievers, and dilating the pupil worked to help things heal up. Many dogs get red eyes from allergies, dust, wind and other irritation. If a dog or cat holds its eye closed use eye wash, antihistamines, and aspirin(for dogs only) to sooth it, but you may need to get the eye checked out. Eyes can be very sensitive and damaged in a short time if there is injury, ulcer, glaucoma, or a foreign object in there.

You can give a baby aspirin 80mg per 10 pounds. You can use a tiny bit of polysporin ointment in the corner of the eye. You should seek emergency care. The sooner it is treated the better. This type of problem can be expensive to treat (100-400 dollars) You can always just pay for an exam to see what your options are

If it is only a scratch, he should be fine. If the inside of the eye becomes inflamed, then it could be an issue. The eye will often get cloudy as the eye heals.

I use all the same medication. The atropine dilates the eye and helps prevent scarring. Baytril prevents infection in the eye. Sounds like your vet has it under control! The atropine makes the eye look different, but that is normal!

I'm experiencing this with my dog right now. 😭😭😭 She had a fight with her sibling. ☹ Our vet prescribed antibacterial eye drops (for 7 days; 2-3 drops thrice a day) and wound healing eye ointment/gel (for 14 days; 2-3 drops twice a day). We were told to monitor her within 3 days because if it gets worse, we have to go back immediately. If it doesn't, we'll just come back after a week for a follow up. I really hope she heals soon and the cloudiness will disappear completely. I want her to have normal eyes again. I'm so worried for my poor baby girl. ☹😭

UPDATE: There were no complications and she's fine now! The cloudiness from the wound didn't fully disappear though since it became somewhat a "scar." Our vet already warned us about that so I was prepared. Good thing her wound wasn't exactly at the center of her eye and it's barely there so her eyesight is not compromised. Since then, I've been extra careful! Lesson learned.

I have heard people use this to treat the eye. If it makes the eye hurt or red, use a saline eyewash to wash it out. Only use a tiny bit twice daily. You can also use a baby aspirin per 10 pounds twice daily

The eye may be able to be pushed in immediately but bleeding and swelling usually prevents it. After it's out for awhile the eye probably does not work anymore and can be removed.

They can stay dilated for 8-24 hours. To tell you the truth, we don't use atropine very much. We see more ulcers than inflamed eyes

@H15A5H1 If the scarring is minimal, it shouldn't affect his vision. Scars in the cornea really can't be fixed. If they are growing cortisone ointment is sometimes helpful

My dog got a scratch on his eye and it isn’t clotted or swollen just a cloudy dot. Not too much discomfort. Would you recommend the vet still ?

The cloudiness will go away as it heals. Try a 25 mg benadryl tonite

ok just be because one cat hurt a dog doesn't mean you guys have to hate cats forever because some cats can be the sweetest things ever ....and some dogs are assholes as well as cats so stop being like "oh this is why cats are awful boo hoo" not every cat is like that

Can this heal up? My dog's other eye just got scratched again and i dont want her to lose the other eye i dont want her to be blind please help i cant handle it anymore i dont want her to lose her eyesight completely😭
