This trick is how guides and professional anglers catch more fish than everyone else. Understanding how rod deflection works will instantly transform you from a decent angler to an amazing angler! Its so simple, anyone can do it!

The Gear Tim was using in this video...

Other Examples of rods that work extremely well for this technique when you begin expanding to other presentations...

Jig Fishing/Texas Rigs:

The key to this method is to establish how much rod deflection your lure is causing. Once you have the baseline established you're literally just watching for a change in deflection. It doesn't matter how sensitive the rod is because this is purely a visual indicator.

If you begin using this method you will instantly begin catching more fish. Its so simple, anyone can do this and it makes all the difference!

This happened to me so many times today while I️ was drop shotting. I️ assumed it was silt or dead vegetation on the bottom.

Yet another great and helpful video...thank you guys. Is there any advice from experience you can share about loading up and difference when feeling say, a rock on bottom? It's much more obvious if I go to set the hook...I'm trying to determine before that, something much more subtle.

Very timely. I fish a rocky lake with a lot of timber. It is hard for me to feel this kinda of bite so hoping rod deflection thinking will help. Thanks.

Have done a good bit of night fishing--this happens to me at night. Without feeling anything as you drag a worm on the bottom and as you slowly and easily start to drag, it feels strange
kinda unexplainable. A bass is just holding the worm in his mouth. That is when I tell my partner, I'm going to set the hook and suddenly the bass comes alive and all h--- breaks loose. Man is that fun.

Hey TacticalBassin can you help out a disabled veteran with some of your old poles and baits? It's to expensive for me to get all the poles and rigs I need. Thanks JD

I have been doing this with a while without actually realizing it, I couldn't fish with any other rod besides my cheap dropshot, thanks for this vid!

yes if you fish a lot then you will have more fish do this to you. i fish 90% of time dropshotting so i have experienced it a lot. the bites feel the same as if you dragged into some weeds. so i always hook set when i feel weeds or rocks. ive actually had largemouth hit my lipless cranks and feel like i snagged on a rock. so i always hook set too much but ive pulled out fish i prob never would have either. the bad thing you get stuck in more snags because of it but you wont miss as many fish. i havent been able to find any big largemouth all summer in off times in over 100 degree weather from the banks. tips for that is appreciated and also winter time here gets tough too. i usually only drop shot plastic worms. in the summertime should i switch to the fish looking ones since there is so many small fish in the lake.? this only my 2nd summer bass fishing last summer was tough too but i went at nights using black worms and scored every trip. but the daily off hours.. very rare.

Funny seeing this, my last 2 smallies around 16" did just this. One sucked it in and swam off and I saw my line moving horizontal to the flow of the river, the other one grabbed it and sat there and I noticed the extra weight of the fish and knew it wasn't weeds cuz I was fishing rocks, and I knew I wasn't hung up cuz it had give. I'm gonna try this out, but I don't think it will work as I use a 6'10" M Zodias.

this should come easy to anyone that can even somewhat consistently hook sturgeon . carp fishing or soaking powerbait for trout would be another way to cross train for what you are describing.

One of my favorite spots! For obvious reasons😉.

That's how i've been detecting bites since the beginning. I'll stop moving and retrieving, and watch the rod tip.

What specifically does it mean when you say a rod "with a soft tip"? Is that in regard to the rod's action, like fast, extra fast etc.? Or something else?

Y'all ever go ice fishing? Rule numero uno when your hands cant feel anything and the fish are so lethargic.. Some times you can hardly see the bite, without electronics it would be pointless lol
